Fuel Filter

Does any one know where the fuel filter is on a GTO-3?

It started spluttering sometimes and cutting out when I come to a stop.

sounds horribly like ecu failure in the Magnetti Marelli

Its a GTO-3 3.0

I hope its not ecu to.

when I floor it I sometimes get a wiff of unburnt petrol. Could it be over fueling and flooding when I slow down. It always start again after waiting for 20 seconds.

Sounds like a dying/dead lambda sensor causing a rich adaptive flooding the engine at idle and causing the stall. Check out the sensor with your nearest dealer.

Its in for a sevice on Monday so I will get them to find out, do they have a diagnostics socket??

They do have a diagnostic socket, which is a 9 pin connector located under the rear clam, on the drivers side near the front of the wheel arch (from memory)

And an O2 sensor or two is a lot cheaper than ECU (which was my first thought). Fingers crossed.

If I got a local mechanic to put his diagnostic computer on it, would he need to use a ford program and conector, st220 or something???

Nope, requires Easymap I believe (but I could be wrong) and a special lead, not just a straight forward com lead.

I seem to remember that a lead has to have a resistor soldered in to avoid FUBARing your ECU. ??

Owen, that is the link I put up, it has the wiring diag. for the com lead.

Dealers should have software which can look at the lambda sensors and tell if they're working OK. I do have access to the ECU for mapping...

Maybe it does need a new map, its having a service at williams in Bristol on Monday so hopefully they can sort it.

It only does it when its at full temperature, and once it does it once it will then do it every couple of miles??
