As a relative new comer I am still finding out who's who when it comes to service and repairs of Nobles. I live in Kent and so far the 2 companies that are supposed to be the nearest experts have been completely uselss when it comes to getting things sorted. If I ran my business like it,I'd go broke. One of them has had the car for 6 weeks to MOT, service and put a pair of boots on it. It looks like repairs for the public is a past time when there's nothing else to do. Am I just a big impatient kid or what?

You'd like to believe that wouldn't you. Last Tuesday they told me the car was ready but they think the crank sensor was playing up. Thursday,Friday & Monday was like a recording 'we think the crank sensor is playing up'. The sensors 20 quid and my bill so far is 1250. Its not even worth playing with, just needs changing.But, and I don't know if this is news for everyone,the nylon bushes on the track rods(I think) are obsolete on the 2.5L and they had to be machined. took 1 of the weeks to get done.

That's just madness. I paid around £600 last year for the same as you're getting from a local specialist. Sounds like they're messing around with stuff they don't need to and adding labour.When I mentioned this last year there was a lot of suspicion about whether my work had been done properly at that price.
I'm glad to say that the 'big names' are gradually losing support from people generally as they've been found wanting when problems are 'fixed' then aren't, and owners have subsequently found obvious things wrong that have been missed.

I live in Kent too, and I consider my nearest experts to be Mole Valley or Kerridges. IMHO its not worth the hassle of using "experts" who may be nearer but sure aren't cheaper or quicker.My view is, we all know that these cars are a bit different, as in, they are small volume and not built on a production line.
That doesn't mean that a very skillful knowledgable local garage can't do the majority of the work for you, especially if they are real petrolheads, probably don't see many of these come through their doors.
Servicing is fairly straight forward, after all it's a ford engine, and as long as you can supply them with as much info as poss.( and quite a few have the manual by now ), and using the info via this site, then I'm sure that you don't have to pay the labour rates that some of the "specialists" charge.
Also, your car would be nice and close, so you could pop in and have a look to see how they are getting on, unlike leaving it hundreds of miles away in a "black hole".
Of course for that special touch, ie. mapping etc. then you would still use the "specialists", but we all know who they are for this type of work.
This is certainly the way I am going, and as long as the service history is kept up to date, with loads of reciepts etc to prove, then it certainly would not put me off from buying a car like it, you can always have it checked over for your peace of mind.

For real specialist stuff like you say then the guys involved in building the engines and maps originally are the ones to talk to. For general servicing I'd almost prefer to buy on maintained by a local garage given the horror stories some guys have come up with from the big names.

Its not even the money that bothers me, its the lack of communication and the amount of time. If I was running the company, I'd get the car in when I needed it and would get the job done. It seems that little bits get done every now and then. Meanwhile my insurance, road tax and fun time are going nowhere. Thanks for your comments and if anyone can recommend a repairer in the south east, I'd be interested in future.
Sorry to hear about this news, next time take your car to Noble London. I was there last Monday with a small issue, they got a technician to check the car out, he found the problem on the spot. They told me to bring the car in next Monday as the part should be there waiting to be installed.

Thanks, will look them up for future reference. By the way, does anyone know a shortcut for changing the clutch slave cylinder without engine removal?

I think the same as stevi my garage mechanic said most is ford and provided you keep receipts can not see the point in being riped off most cars have had servicing up to 20 to 30 thou by now i would Bi on condition as well most owners are bit fernatical and you can tell this when you're looking ilooked at 4 before ifound the right one
