Clutch friction plate cost?

Having finally removed the engine and gearbox from the Noble I found the source of the clutch problem!!!





Also discovered that there was no front turbo heat shield and so things have gotten a little warm in there!!

Can anyone advise me on the probable cost of a friction plate?

Is the friction plate separate from the clutch?
Think the clutch itself is only a few hundred quid from when I looked to replace mine.

The pressure plate itself seems perfectly fine to me.
I'm just looking for a new friction plate rather than the whole clutch assembly.

its really false economy to replace only part of the clutch

i would expect it has been slipping and that is why its now fried

you would be very unhappy to have to pull the gearbox out again to replace the other part !

Replace it all. It's never sensible to replace one bit.

The clutch had never slipped and up until the point of failure it was working perfectly.
You can see from the photo that a piece of the friction material has come away from the plate and wedged itself in the gap of the flywheel.
That's what caused the clutch problem.

It took a damn sight longer than I thought it would!!
But it was a learning experience!

In total it probably took maybe 15 hours?
Just getting the ally floor off was a mission in itself!
And to be fair I did completely strip the rear end down along the way.

From the look of things underneath I need to replace/repair the cabin floor too as there are a lot of rivet heads missing and some corroded holes. Water has gotten in before and I could never work out where it was coming from. Now I know!!

I'd definately replace the whole unit.
30 hours labour only to have to do it again would be tragic!
Of course you could always do the cut the chassis member and make it bolt in modification whilst the engine is out.

Yeah, you're probably right.

But then there's a certain masochistic pleasure derived from extensive car work!!!
