Standard H7 bulb in both dip and main beam lights.

Earlier cars with single lights use H4 bulbs.

Or even better an HID conversion.
Cheap as chips now and only 35 Watts power drain!

Tony, how does the HID conversion cost compare with a £17 bulb replacement? Also how do the fitting times compare?

Assuming that my headlights were at the right height before the new bulbs were fitted, it made a big difference.

Cost for HID is a moot point. I put a ?Bosch? conversion on mine a year ago I suspect it is a Chinese effort, at that time it cost around £100.00.
Now you can get them for £30.00 upwards.
Fitting time wise not much in it as you have to remove the inner h/lamp covers to access the lamps.
Wiring is really easy literally unplug the lamp holder and fit the plug to the ballast.
The lamps fit in the same way as standard.
The hardest part is finding a space for the ballasts to reside.
Some of the ballasts now are smaller and will fit inside the cover.
The light is simply staggering compared to Halogen, Best look for 4500K temperature lamps.
Unless you like purple hehe then 12000K will work a treat.
