To Those Who Have Had The Heater Box Apart...
Discussion
OK, so in my quest to get my heater fan working, i have established that my fuse and relay are good, and that i have volts to the appropriate pins on the plug which enters the N/S of the heater box.
I now suspect the resistor pack as opposed to the heater motor, so does anyone know whether the resistor pack is easily accessable, or is it mounted inside the heater motor???
TIA

There is a small panel secured by a screw adjacent to where the plug goes in to the box the "resistor" pack (haha) is there.I now suspect the resistor pack as opposed to the heater motor, so does anyone know whether the resistor pack is easily accessable, or is it mounted inside the heater motor???

I have just done mine. It took about 45 mins to get the box out I then cut it open (very neatly) replaced the whole blower motor with a MK5 Escort one sealed the box again and installed it. You would never even notice the difference apart from now the heater works ! It was quite easy to do and took one evening - better than paying £650 plus labour for a new one !

Yep, panel on the passenger side. When I took mine out recently and disconnected it, the fuse continued to blow with the swithes on Off. Does that indicate that the wiring before the fuse/relay is my problem? Also, can I ask if the relay for your heater (top right on the box?) is a different spec/configuration to the others? Mine is.....I now suspect the resistor pack as opposed to the heater motor, so does anyone know whether the resistor pack is easily accessable, or is it mounted inside the heater motor???

I also re-built my heater box with an escort fan blower, but then a complete original heater box became available so I modded that instead.

Just in case it's of interest, found that my relay configuration was wrong and was causing the fuse to go. I have 4 blue ones which are 30/20A (as opposed to the rest which are 30A) and need to be put in the correct slots. The wiring behind the fuse box looks like it interlinks the HVAC and cooling fan electrics (which require my blue relays in the row below) - must have been sending power to places where it shouldn't. Not sure how they got mixed up in the first place
