Hi Chaps,

im looking at purchasing the M400 as im hoping it will be the easiest to sell after 12 months use- if i want to sell it wink Would you agree and could you give me some pointers on what to look out for, problems etc?? Would you say that the M400 is the more reliable if looked after. The price seems to abe around the £39k mark for one with about 8k mileage in good nick full history??? Sorry for all the questions but your answers greatfully appreciated. I hope to be a regular on the forum once ive made the purchase and hope to get a good un' - thanks all in advance

I would suggest you tackle the issue starting with your available budget. The right car from both model ranges will produce similar a return in 12 months.

I suppose the question is not what depreciates the most but which Noble costs the least to run against depeciation. From reading stuff on the net it would seem to be the M400 but then they are the newest, so many problems may not have surfaced. i just called 'Dove house motor company' to see if they had any M400 and they have stopped selling Nobles (i think costing them too much post sale to keep custumers happy) My budget can range from 20k to 41k for the right car but want to pay the least on repairs so a car thats had the necessary repairs already makes sense to me. I only want to use the car for a couple of trackdays a month.

Andy, 20-odd track days a year will place excessive strain on your suspension, brakes, turbos, etc. (excluding consumables: pads, tyres, etc.) requiring £x,xxx spent on repairs and replacements. Obviously, you'll need to factor this in.

As I guess you know, the M400 is far more track oriented than the 3R so, bearing in mind your number of track days, doesn't this make your choice clear?

Re your comment about Dove House ending its association with the Noble marque - did they provide any reason for this surprising position?

Perhaps I can shed some light on the subject.

The last two M400's that have been sold by Dove House were not serviced properly pre-sale. Meaning that they then had too fork out to have the cars sorted properly post sale by a specialist when both customers noticed that their cars weren't firing on all 6 cylinders. Maybe I was expecting too much?

Yes, i think ive already decided on the M400 even though i could get 2.5 M12 Gto for almost half the money with ,maybe most if the important stuff fixed (axle etc)

My trackdays are as a Novice as ive only done a few up to now and will probably not race! Just end up doing the open pit lanes to let off some steam twice a month. maybe even some european runs if the cars up to the journey

i think Iain has the answer. i asked if they had any for sale and (i think Graham) said they dont sell them anymore, they still have a couple of M12's in stock though. I asked if it was because of problems with repairs and he said yes. That said, he added thay they would stock them if they got them in at the right price ( i presume to factor any repairs)

Regarding getting good servicing ive heard on the forums good things about 'Crazy horses' is that right??

Also, whats the view of 'Noble London'. are there any clear problems which are surfacing with the M400 which needs to be addressed before (or after) purchase that i need to be aware of

I dont think i've heard anything bad about Noble London, i've met skip and he seems to be a really nice enthusiastic bloke, What problems are surfacing which are spacificaly related to the M400?

The only problem i know which exclusively effects the M400 is Valve surge on some cars, mine did it from new. Noble did not upgrade the valve springs and put high boost maps in, the valve springs could not hold the pressure and would stay open damaging the seats thus loosing power and compression. As i said this did not effect all M400's

Normal stuff really, blue / white smoke on revving = not good, a bit of smoke on start up is ok. Check exhaust brackets, one of them is prone to breaking on a regular basis, check all visible drive belts are in good nick. Make sure everything works and that it drives ok.

Cant thinm of much else?

You'll have to bear in mind that a trackday in an M400 costs between 600 and 800 squids once you've factored in all the consumables, insurance etc etc.

I started out think i'd do 2 a month but find 4 to 6 a year is plenty and about all my budget can cope with.

Dove house as far as Simon told me, will still do 3R's but no others as they are the only ones that sell out fast.

No, you didn't expect too much, thats piss poor and frankly doesn't surprise me after an enquiry I made with them. There's probably only two places from my own experience that I would buy a Noble from, NobleLondon ( although not official dealers at the mo') and Kerridges. The 3R I got from NL was prepped properly, had solid history and they possess a superb mechanic in Skippy, nothing being too much trouble. The M400 I purchased from Kerridges was also the same and after having 6/7 cars from them over the years I trust them 100%. An example being that presently I'm having FOC a couple of bits done that are outside the period of the "coverall" part of the warranty.
My advice to a potential M400 buyer would be to leave your details with these two companies, sit back and enjoy the wait 'til a good-un comes along, or buy private car with totally solid history and purchase a seperate warranty.

I have had nothing but outstanding service from Noble London

They supplied my car in immaculate condition, properly pre-serviced, have collected and dropped off after each service, and have never let me down

I have to agree with Adrian and Martin.

I picked up my car from nobleLondon about 6 months ago and i have to say, they are a great bunch of guys. if you pop down there, you'll notice the lack of 'salesman push' . i hate people telling me what i must and must not buy, but down there at nobleLondon they give you all the space you need so you can work things out in your own time. skip is a very down to earth technician, he even gives you friendly advise on general noble maintenance tips.
