You were inside the car at the time ?
yep thats what i would sayI suspect it is something to do with the remote set to lock the doors but is a little worrying. It used to happen in my TVR many years ago so I'd have to "break-in" via the roof to switch it off which was very easy.
this happened to my mrs when she was out with our 2 week old baby boy
she got herself in a terrbile state and was so worried the little fella was too hot in the car in the sun
somebody smashed the rear qtr window but the door would still not open
it turns out the spare keys were in her handbag on the passenger seat !
eventaully i turned up and had to connect a fising rod to a magnet and then go fishing in her bag till the keys came out !!
basically the car locked itself !! - I suspect the spare keys got squashed and the remote went off locking the car
p.s - there is a special way to get into the car if you know how, not for public knowledge !

A standard feature of a thatcham approved cat 1 alarm is to lock the doors once the engine is running. Most of the time (for convenience) this option is switched off but for insurance purposes I believe its a requirement.
A friend managed to do exactly the same some years back with an escort cosworth while at work. He reached into the car and started the engine, shut the door and turned to talk to me. Before he could turn back and grab the door handle, the central locking activated. He's only a skinny chap and myself and another were able to pop open the rear 1/4 window, remove the small pin holding the window to the clamp with a pin punch and slide him through the gap!!!
As soon as the engine is stopped, the doors will open. That includes by stalling also IIRC. That might be one to remember with a noble as you are able to lift the clam and gain access to easily 'stallable' bits
should the need arise.

That can't be true, otherwise if you get out of your car with the engine running and shut the door you'd be locked out. That would be a stupid and dangerous feature. Also, I've just looked up cat1 on the Thatcham web site and it makes no mention of that.snuffy said:

A good point. An engine kill switch would sort it.
should the need arise.roi354 said:

So, as you panic in your attempt to escape the carjackers you stall the engine and thus the doors can immediately be opened from outside? Great news.
