Battery Melting!!

Was under the car last night to look at a turbo oil drain hose leak, and noticed the battery has melted on the side at the top on the side nearest the exhaust(cat).
The battery was wrapped in foil (thermo-tec) and the cat is wrapped.
I have ordered some more Nimbus GII heat sheild and will make up a shield between the exhaust and the battery when I fit the new one.

The question is this...apart from heat from the cat/turbo can anything else make the battery melt (overcharging etc??)
Has anyone else had this issue?

Fit Nimbus G111X as it is a sandwich material and better heat insulation.

Wrap the battery as well in cooltek (about half the price of other insulation)

Battery will be wrapped, using GII as it is easy to form and can make a shield quickly, will look into GIII when I get back from the alps.

G3X is the same as G2 but with a composite filling. Bit more expensive but if you only do it once that's good.

Any idea who sells the GIII,that can also deliver tomorrow?
Have ordered the GII, but sure I can use that else where.

I had the top part of my Battery melt too. But on mine it was because I removed the heat wrap from the exhuast after I ceramic coated the exhaust. Then I took it to the track. It was my mistake... the heat wrap is required, even with a ceramic coating. That mistake also melted the alternator wiring. But at least it was an easy fix.
