Weird. Those fuses in the engine bay have come up a number of times lately.

Yup.

A) It's been damp and
B) Some people seem to be fixing the problems using a bit of emery cloth or sand paper. That removes the corrosion AND the electroplated surface most connectors have on them. Just makes the problem come back again much more quickly.....

Hi im not a noble owner im still um-ing and er-ing about it stage but iv been lurking around the forum for a bit. Any way I restore old cars / racing cars for a living and when I work with fuses and connectors I drip latex (the stuff you get in a hobby shop to make moulds) on them to weather proof them a bit, I was just wondering if anyone had tried this or something like it before?

Nothing wrong with what you wrote, it's more cohesive than some of the rambings on here biggrin

I've generally given a good squirt of WD40 for trouble free life.

Is that the same as getting it on a sailor's leg?

I recently had a fuse problem - an under-spec 10A fuse was used in the headlight circuit which caused it to overheat (but not blow) and over a few months it slowly melted the surrounding plastic in the fuse box. Eventually it failed which is when I found the damage. Replacing with a 15A fuse sorted the problem.
