Hi Everyone,
Just wondering if any Noble owners have driven a Jag XKR. I know the noble is faster, but I am considering getting rid of the Jag in favour of the noble. Therefore, just wondering if anyone has any real world experience of either driving both, or racing one, to see if there will be any massive gains. I know that on the top end the gains will be minimal, with a 165 top speed for a noble, as opposed to the annoyingly limited top speed of 155 for the Jag, but I would like to know what handles better, and what is altogether more fun.
Cheers,
Scott Cheadle.

The NOBLE. The 2.5 is rated at 165, Joust reached 161mph GPS verified at Bruntingthorpe and reckoned that it was a 'bit pedestrian' getting to that speed. The current 3.0l is rated at 170+mph from 344bhp, the 3R is expected to possibly run more power so speed is currently unknown.
Edited to make Joust happy.

Scott,
You're comparing a large (nearly 2tonne i'm guessing) crusing car to a lightweight agile sports car.
You ask what's more fun... The Noble will really be tonnes more fun, but will be a harsher ride.
If you want a mile-eater that will be comfortable all day long stick with your Jag.
If you want a fun, sports-related car, go for a Noble.
Although, i think Joust's mentioned that Noble's are incredibly comfortable too.
GO BUY A NOBLE!!!

I used to own an S-type 4.0 litre, and have been in an XKR. As has been said, you really need to try a Noble.
They are miles apart in design purpose.
The Noble has been designed as an out-and-out drivers car with handling and performance placed first priority. Lee then managed to place unbelievable amounts of everyday drivability into this 'raw' package. On top of this better then expected usability, you even get leather, air-con and a stereo in the 3R.
The Jags are designed to cater for driver comfort and you are surrounded by technology oozing from every feature of the car (voice activation my personal favourite ). They then slapped a whacking great 400+ bhp engine and some clever traction control (which I personally thought was so poor it was actually dangerous) to take your personal armchair along at warp factor 9.
IMHO there is a car 'in between' the XKR and the Noble in terms of being more raw than the Jag, and more creature-comfort than the Noble - that's a 911. Had one of those as well (993 4S) but still yearned for something even more raw, hence the Noble on order!
Fill up Lee's order book, it will be the best decision you make.

Oh yes - very very comfy (when you get everything sorted).
You'll miss the "easy step in" (although the XKR can be a pain for 6'0"+ people) , the "wafting" (it's all drama in a Noble - even a trip to the shops) and the bit of rubber they stick between the steering wheel and the wheels if you get a Noble (oh and the fact you can't throw two golf club bags into the bag - about one squishy one will fit in the Noble...).
Best thing is just go and get a test drive (Mole Valley will happily take you out 'just to see' - ask for Charles and say I sent you if you like around SE/SW London - most other dealers will be just as accomodating as well) and see what you think. The MoleV test route (due to being where they are) takes in dual carriage way, motorway (if you ask), winding A and B roads, and can last up to an hour if you really want to check comfort etc.
I happily do 3 hour stints in the Noble without any bad effects - the passenger side could do with a "sloped" footwell to assist the passengers comfort, but apart from that there isn't much else to fault (oh - you do have to twiddle a knob to gain 'climate control' - small price to pay though!)

Not really a "struggle" - just a bit "pedestrian" after around 140. It was still pulling quite happily at 161 - just not in the same league as, say, a 996tt....

But then when exactly do you need to do 0 to 160 in 1.5miles in the real world ????

My dad did a comparison between an XKR silverstone top of the range jobbie and the Cerbera 4.5
If the Cerbera is quicker in every respect (cornering braking and accelerating) then the Noble will be even quicker still (except acceleration, but I dont want to argue about that, the Noble beats it everywhere else).
IF noble made a car that looked and sounded as good as the Cerbera (ALL IMHO) for just over 20K (we got ours used) then we would be the first in line to buy it. Having heard what other PH'ers have said, and having seen one go round a roundabout at ridiculous rates I can only conclude that it is astonishing to drive.
Get rid of the Jag now, the Noble will be much more fun.
