Stick on plates. Good/Bad/Ugly

Title says it all really, not interested in the legalities of them (we all know they're illegal ) just interesed in your thoughts. Going to get some legal sized but minimum boardered plates made up, then thought of a front stick on. Only one i have see is the obvious V6 Not sure if it suits that colour.

I've just put one on mine this week. Comes down to personal preference at the end of the day.

If they face forward and are of the correct size they are not illegal according to the head of my local Traffic police.

Search the threads years back. been done to death. legality relates to not only the font but also the process of manufacture. they have to be made in special machines. they can't put stick on ones through those machines; ergo illegal.

The stick on plate are illegal, but I've not heard of anybody being pulled for stick on plates.
They used to have them on the E-Type Jags, and I think that the police have accepted that some cars just have stick on plates.

I did actually want the plate on the left hand side, like they have on the Zonda, but it got stuck on the car before I had time to do some chin scratching....



Or, in the case of some nobles, no plates on the front at all (you know who you are !!!!)

They were legal on the E-types at the time. The law chanegd a few years ago and made them illegal. However I agree I've never heard of anyone being hassled with them and for a long while I had them front and back. In fact I remeber being pulled over by Surrey traffic police on the M25 when I had the front stick on and they made no comment at all.

i would like to relocate both of mine....is there a problem with lowering the rear reg plate off the meshing and onto the body?? i have seen this done on an M400. liked the look and it must have some cooling benefits.

Get a finger nail under a corner and pull it up a millimeter, move your finger along a centimeter and repeat. Just do it very gradually and you should have no problems, they're quite stiff actually.

Before re-fixing buy some double sided sticky tape, then cut a piece off and lay it flat with the sticky side up. Lay the badge on it, sticky side to sticky side. Turn it over and run your finger nail up and down to ensure 100% contact. Trim off the excess tape with a scalpel, or similar. Make sure you clean the area it's going on with panel-wipe and job's a carrot.

Never been pulled with the front in nearly 3 years of ownership (allthough more than half of that time it was in Spain) and the rear is a standard numberplate with the edges trimmed off. That's been on for 6 months woithout a pull.

We Put a Motor Cycle Sized plate on the front - still illegal, but looks tidy & you don't have to relocate the name plate.

OK sorry ppl. It is obviously illegal. Upon reflection his words may have been more along the lines of 'if its a legal size and font etc I would not stop you for it'

Stick on and dark car definately looks nicer. not sure about the relocated rear 50/50 about that To remove the badges try dental floss under the badge works great with any other manufacturers stick on badge. just use it like a wire and run it back and forth between the body and the badge.

When I read it, they said they were not aware of any that met the standards.

No, number plates must meet the British Standard requirements and we are not aware of any self-adhesive number plates that are able to meet these requirements.
