Why is it called the M12 then? Was it intended to have a V12 ( proper engine ) and then someone got cold feet and changed there mind for a weeney V6 which then needed a couple of turbos to be nailed on to get a half decent amount of power. ( sounds like the XJ220 to which the M12 bears more than a passing resemblance ) Surely M6 is a more appropriate name.
And how do they manage to cost it at £45k. You could build a Cobra with more power for half that amount.

Being a Lotus owner and still learning about Noble please forgive errors. But it seems to me that the M12 designation isn't connected to the engine it carries. Most cars aren't named after their engines. Usually they carry an extra moniker that.
Secondly, I don't understand what you mean by "..V12 (proper engine)". A V6 is perf3ectly proper. V12's are generally inefficient unless designed very well. That's why most performance engines carry less cylinders as the firing order is more complimentary through the cycle. V8 being the best, but sometimes you need more to devlop more power without raising the revs. This is why generally F1 engines don't exceed 10 cylinders anymore as some have in the past and then reverted back. But V8s would need turbos to get the power/fuel rate like IndyCar motors.
In a small car like the Nobbler a V8 would be too large/heavy and defeat power gain not to mention handling. A six is perfect as it is closest to V8 efficiency and often can acelerate quicker feeling more nimble as a result, like the Honda NSX motor.
I can't see how the Noble looks like a XJ220 either And a Cobra is a kit car wannabe of an old classic, whereas the Noble is a great new British sportscar.

Nicholas
