Being a write off is a bit confusing. Cars are regularly 'written off' as being beyond economical repair based on the authorised dealer / factory market rates of repair.
You'll be surprised how little it takes to write off a car nowdays as the write off point is the amount of money paid once written off (forecourt price) minus the salavage value given the damage.
There are four catagories assigned to a car once written off
Category A: Total Loss. No value left in the vehicle (often happens when the car has burnt to a crisp)
Category B: Break only. Value lies in breaking the car into its components and selling them.
Category C: Damage to car is more than total value of car.
Category D: Repair would cost almost as much as the vehicle is worth, and falls foul of the position above.
Category A&B must never be placed back on the road. C's rarely are, D's often are.
For a Noble 15-20k of estimated damage (not the same as it would actually cost to do the work....) could easily place a car into Catagory D.
Key with all these things is how much is the 'stigma' worth of having a repaired car....

I'd be interested to know, for instance, what the insurance situation is with Adrian W's car is. Is it a write off? It has what could be described as light frontal damage, yes?
I'm sure once it's repaired it will be as good as any other Noble out there so why the stigma? If it's a good repair there's no problem. Maybe different on a Ford Focus or a VW Golf but not on an enthusiast car like this.

I've only got permit parking atm. Not getting a noble until i've got a garage. The house in a couple of years and the Noble a year or two later.
BTW, my nickname is also my reg number.
Still looks like a good deal to me....just a little too early.
