Winter refurb..
Discussion
Now winter is upon us, my 3 is off the road for a service/refurb waiting for the good weather again. When I bought it there was a few bits of light surface rust especially on the front cross section of the chassis which I wanted to sort out at the same time.
Now the pans are off, I've found a bit more so now the car is having a full zinc coating of the chassis sections at the front and back as the body areas are fine, followed by underseal and waxoyl.
I'd be interested to hear from other owners to see how other cars are resisting the dreaded tin worm....
I'm doing a full photo record through refurb, not sure how to post photos but I'll let you all know how it goes.
On the plus side, it should be quicker now the quarter ton of gravel has been removed from the pans

Hi there D G, Just read your post about zinc coating the chassis, I've had many parts done on the other car over the years and they are all still perfect. defo a good thing to do and I will be doing the Noble front and rear chassis soon. You are talking about hot zinc melted and blown on aren't you?

Does that mean a bare chassis? Can you zinc coat without a full strip down? Why not waxoyl?

Yep, strip down job, its not that bad a job actually. I've applied a zinc coat after stripping the chassis of the old paint etc to get a good key. I was originally going to spray it on but to avoid too much mess (and being lazy) I applied two light coats with a brush. Next up is a sprayed on flexible rubber top coat and then waxoyl in the unexposed areas.
I could have just put waxoyl and underseal on what was there but want the car tiptop so went the extra mile...or ten!!
I've also found a kinked PAS pipe which looking at the routing may be a design problem, worth looking at if any of you have heavy steering etc.
Cheers
