Drivers window not working.

Has anyone had similar problem.Glass has come out of metal bracket which connects to winding mechanism,seems to be fixed with sealant , i have used a windscreen sealant i then put it all back together then it happened again. anybody any advise

P.S im a new member of this brilliant forum i have had my GTO3 for 8 months WHAT A CAR!!!

If it was my car I would use no nails (mini metro)! What you need is a proper cement for bonding metal to glass! Some are a rubber in a tight clamp! Sealer is no use as it is not strong enough. You could ask at your diy motor shop what to use or at a garage! Make sure the window runs free in its tracks etc!

Polyurethane is the correct adhesive to bond glass to metal, however, the glass (and bare metal) will need to be coated with glass / metal primers in order for the urethane to 'grab' the contact surfaces.

Never use silcone.

Thanks for the advice but the glass seems to fit into a rubber sleeve mounted in a metal bracket.Do you think same adhesive could be used.

You will need to use an adhesive called sikaflex this worked for me,make sure the glass is clean and grease free wipe with thinners apply the adhesive wind the window up carefully check for alignment and leave for 24 hours. Dont get any on your fingers its murder to get off,hope this helps.

That'll be Glazing Rubber; fitted correctly they do the job and last (almost) forever. The problem comes with age / usage / distortion in the regulator (or mechanism) / or poor installation. Has the glass been replaced, or 'tampered' with for any reason?

The glazing rubber will be less effective if the glass or rubber is coated with a lubricating substance (which may have been used when compressing into the bracket). Other possibilities could be that the glazing rubber is too thin; the bracket has opened up, or that there is a tight spot in the down motion of the window.

Bonding the glass directly to the channel (bracket) will work but you must get it right, i.e., ensure that the bracket is alligned properly and that you pack-out any play in the glass-to-metal fit.

De-greasing the rubber (glass side) and cleaning the part of the window it fits to should be the first steps towards trying to do it the correct way. Remove the glass and check that there is no distortion in the mechanism. I haven't replaced a glass on a Noble yet, what kind of mechanism does it have, eg cable, third-arm etc?

Thanks for the advice,think its a third arm.I think the window is not running as smooth as it should.Fitting glass in to bracket is not easy because it has to be done within door panel which means applying enough pressure is difficult,but will try what you have advised . Many thanks.
