I have a 2.5 and average 12,000 miles a year, I drive every day and commute in heavy traffic. Can anyone tell me roughly how long I can expect the clutch to last? The engines coming out soon and thought it may be an opportunity to do the clutch too if needed. I assume they all have AP clutches?

Thanks
H

I'd change it if you're taking the engine out - the part is cheap, extra labour minimal.

That's my view...others might disagree

Agree. Might as well while the engine's out I would have thought.

I'd tend to agree. If the engine is out, get a new one fitted.

I managed 50K on my first clutch, which included a fair few track days and lots of German high speed motoring.

That's not bad going. Is that just luck do you think or can we all expect that?

Well, luck is what you make yourself :-)

I think the AP racing clutch is mostly likely a pretty good quality item.
As with all things mechanical, a little bit of sympathy goes a long way....

I've put 20K on the new clutch, and I actually though it was starting to slip after I had some performance components fitted.
As it turned out the wheels were spinning...... no problems with the clutch at all !

Thanks for the advice. Anyone know the part number? Or is this another 'only available through Noble' item?

I think it is a Noble only item...you could call ap and ask nicley, say it is for your uprated mondeno ST....
The clutch kit from Noble is around the £350 if I remember correctly(that was for a six speeder though)

Humpy,

I think the 2.5 clutch was about 240+vat.

Plans did mine when I had the LSD fitted.

What you having done?

I'm having a track sump fitted. I know I could cut and shut the chasis but I've come to an 'arrangement'. Also, at the same time, an M400 fuel pump fitted with loom upgrade. After that, next on the list will be getting the overboost controller working properly [it's disconnected at the mo].

Do you already have a LSD fitted if not I would def do that while the engine is out.

It varies when the wastegate on the turbos opens allowing the ECU to control the boost levels obtained from the turbos in real time.

Generally used to provide "overboost" allowing the turbos to boost to, say, 1 bar initally and then back it off to 0.7bar over time, ensuring you don't overstress the engine but obtain more torque and hence BHP.

Mine was boosting to 1.3 bar, which is why it's disconnected - I'll get it sorted though.
