GTO-3R compared to 996 Turbo?

Hi guys, first post in this section.

How does the everyday performance of the GTO-3R compare to a 996 Turbo? I currently have 996 turbo fitted with the factory upgrade which has been tested to 464bhp with 502lbs/ft of torque and love the performance. Due to a possibly growing family I may be looking to sell the porker and get a Noble as a fun car along with something with a huge boot.

How do you guys find the ownership experience and is there a difference between a GTO-3 and a GTO-3R?

I would rather have my 3R and my Chrysler Voyager than a 996 TT.

I'm sure that the TT would feel faster and most likely get round a track just as impressively, but, would you ever put it round a track? I doubt it. However, you should and would love putting your new Noble round a track.

You'll have to go and test drive one Sir. The only way to answer your own question.

You are either made for Noble ness or you're not.

You'll know if you are within about 45 seconds of your testdrive.

To be honest, I'd suggest that you take one out for a drive first.

The 996 turbo is a fantastic car, but it tends to delivery it's performance in a very controlled way (although turn off the PSM, and watch it get a bit wild !).

The M12 wears it's performance on it's sleeve. It wooshes, and growls and pops and bangs on the underrun.

Totally different experience to the porker (which was why I sold mine and bought an M12).

Agree with Jools - driven both and the absolute performance is very similar but delivered in an utterly different way. The only way to be sure is to drive both over a significant distance. Not too much of a trial!

Being fortunate enough to have one of each in the garage, I can tell you I wouldn't part with either one. Each has its own positives. However when going for the shock and awe, the Noble wins hands down every time. Had a guy in an Audi 8 following me this afternoon while in the Porsche. He was on the cell phone and I could read his lips (cause he was right on my arse). He was telling his buddy on the other end that he was following a 911TT and the license plate was MYSLOW1. "Yeah, and the license plate frame says My Other Car Is a Noble M12 GTO 3R" He about ran off the road laughing.

They are way different cars.

Rear engine vs mid
AWD vs RWD
overweight pig vs lean gazelle

Its just a matter if you are one who would truely appreciate what the Noble has to offer, performance wise, and not just straight line speed. its a compromise. To me, well worth it. Obviously, if you could have both, it would be great. Personally I am not a Porsche fan unless we are talking GT3RS. Dont buy it just for attention. It gets old.. drive it and buy it because you love it.

As someone who modifies cars for a living the Noble sounds right up my street. Anyone know of any for sale near Dorset?

One other question, what is the difference between the 3 and 3R?

About 42hp in the US (310 vs 352) in base configuration. If the hypo map is added to the 3R the difference is about 70-90hp. Not sure if it is the same in the UK.

in the uk the 3 and 3r are both the same 352 bhp

the 2.5 gto is 310 bhp

There also a few details of trim / soundproofing and a few bits and bobs in the 3r (and most 3r's have the 6speed box with LSD as standard)
