Finally joined the nobility...got an M400

Hi all,

Finally managed to get my hands on a very nice M400 (viper steel/grey). What a car! I was blown away by the GTO-3R I drove a few weeks back, but this is even more impressive. It feels really solidly put together too.

It is a bit of an attention whore...but I'm sure I'll get used to that.

Just a couple of quick questions which I thought you guys would know the answer to:

1. I haven't got access to a hosepipe so I'm not sure what to do about washing it. All the washes near me use pressure jets and I don't think this car could take it. Any ideas from anyone owning a Noble in London? Where do you take your cars to be washed/valeted?

2. I noticed that the air filters may be vulnerable to getting wet when it rains as they are in the direct path of potential rain. I guess they were put under the engine grille mesh to maximise airflow. Can the M400 be used in the wet? I'd hate to soak the air filters and have the car die on me.

1) A hand jet wash is fine, just don't stick it through a machine.

2) No issues with wet weather.

Yes it did used to live in Glasgow and owned by a top chap too! Thoroughly enjoyed the drive back yesterday

I'm soooo glad you purchased that motor - I was seriously considering the same but am glad to learn that the decision has been removed from my agenda! Enjoy.

Hi Alex,

Firstly - congratulations.
What made you go for the M400 in the end, rather than the 3R? Just wondering, as I did exactly the same, and when looking for the 3R, I was sure an M400 was out of reach - it's funny how the goalposts can shift!

Secondly - in answer to your questions:
1. I alsways wash it by hand with the old-fashioned bucket and sponge... Well, several buckets obviously.
2. Not had any problems in the rain so far (apart from taking it a bit easy with the P Zero Corsas).

Finally, it seems viper grey M400s are becoming quite common around here - when I said I'm quite local to you, I wasn't joking

Mike - I'll post some pics as soon as I get her properly waxed...probably this weekend. Having Gary take a look this Saturday just to make sure all is ok. Having said that, she hasn't missed a beat so far and I've done 500 miles since Saturday (400 of which was the drive back to London from Glasgow)

Conrad - Thanks! I had a limit set in my mind of around £35k when I started looking. I wasn't even looking at M400s as most were way above £40k. When this one turned up and I found out it was sub £40k, I thought it would be rude not to go for it. I also went off the idea of going through a dealer as I managed to get a great warranty for 3 years with warranty works (as you suggested) for just over £1k. Their cover is great too. My car insurance also ended up being £1k less than what I was paying for the Evo. I think I will use the old bucket and sponge approach by the sounds of it. Would be great to have a local mini-meet at some point. I'm sure you'd point me in the right direction with all aspects of Noble ownership.

I'd say it was the lowest cost (we don't say cheapest in marketing!) private sale M400 so far. If it was Titanium I'd have beaten you too it mate!

They're about half way down Chamber St (E1 8) off Leman Street. No idea of the name. They seem to do a good job and a few people in Wapping use them. Certainly good for £5 anyway. Bit far from Harrow I'd say though...
