Service; what do you get for your money?
Discussion
Looking to get my 3R serviced soon, being quoted between £600 - £700+ depending whether any problems found. Please,no offence is intended and I am not trying to start an argument or have a dig at dealers. But bearing in mind how "basic" these cars are,I am just curious as to exactly what is done during a 6000 mile/annual service?
As well as all the usual stuff they spannercheck the whole car, check all the suspension including the tracking. When I had my 6k done at the factory the only extras needed were a newindicator stalk assembly and a new balljoint but it took Roger from 10 in the morning 'till 5:30. It would have 5 but he heard a rattle on the test drive and it took him half an hour to track down and fix.
They are thorough!

Most garages rip you off for oil
I know that garages like to make a "market driven" profit on oil but the real greedy basthards are the oil companys themselves. For example Mobil 1 is considered to be a "designer product" in the UK. Hell that stuff is more expensive than whisky .
Noble charge £75 per hour so that is probably where most of your money goes.
Then again, Nobles are specialist cars so you don't want any muppet working on it. I had my 3R serviced at the factory last week at £695. I will happily pay that again for the piece of mind that my car is being looked after by the factory.

All I`m saying is £600-700 + is a lot of money, and i am interested as to what is done for this. Same as NobleGuy, I have also had 3000 GT, twin turbo Supra, 3 x porsche 911, BMW X5 4.4, Range Rover 4.4 Vogue, and all of these were serviced at main dealers, and I have never paid as much as this for a scheduled service [granted, they usually find something that needs doing, which bumps up the cost!]
If they spanner check the whole car, check tracking etc, as mentioned in previous posts, then it is an absolute bargain for £600-700 and as such I will be very happy to pay this for the peace of mind that the car is 100%.
I have found through past experiences that this is not the case, especially if the vehicle is out of warranty, usually just oil and filter changes, adust handbrake etc and valet car.
This brings us back to the Noble, being such a basic car with a high standard service cost, I just wanted to know what is carried out during the service, should I ask if I want the suspension components checked over, turbo mounting bolts checked for tightness etc, or is this all part of the fixed service? Obviously the car will be serviced at a main dealer, because they are familier with these cars and their faults and also without their stamp in the service book, the car is devalued. So once again, does anyone actually know what is done during the annual/6000 service?

If you're near Plans at Dunsfold get them to do it. Highly recomended.
