air intake mesh - front and sides

Mines are looking a little tatty - as anybody else attempted to paint them? Hammerite?

I took all the mesh off my car when it was getting painted and had it all stripped recently beck to the silver finished, Looks good and a little different.

Not sure yet, they look siliconed in so I guess it will be a pain in the arse to strip them all back.

One time whilst I was at the factory I discussed the mesh areas with one of the engineers there, he said the best bet is to mask them off and spray them in situ. The paint he showed me was a matt black in a spray tin.

I touch them in with a black marker pen fairly regularly. I guess you could use some black hammerite and a brush and just over paint. I wouldn't want to strip them in place but if they need a big going over you'll have to see which is more fiddly. Taking them off or masking all around them.

The paint code is a low gloss spray, D721-1 JET BLACK.

1 x Tin of black smooth hammerite
1 x Cotton bud

Dip said cotton bud in tin and you'll find it's dead easy to touch them up. The Hammerite doesn't chip off either so after about a year they will stop doing it

Did mine before Le Mans. Masked all round the 3 areas and painted them with hammerite. I used the glossy stuff which looks ok, but given the choice again (or had I noticed it was glossy 1st) I would get matt finish stuff.

Looks good now.

My splitter was also a bit knackered so I got a few rolls of black electrical tape and have fully masked the whole splitter. Looks much better and its easy to pull off and re-do every so often.


I think that a front end respray is in order for me soon. Need to start looking about for where to have it done.

Can any old spray shop do it?

I used C&R in Sedbury, The owner came to pick up the front clam and then refitted when done. Cracking job, I would say any good spray shop could do it!!

Plans Motorsport quoted me £810 (inclusive) to respray the entire front clam.

I paid 350 all in for mine, although I did already have the paint. I had some high quotes, the problem being they take one look at the car and think "well he can afford it". Although it's a large panel it should cost no more than it does to spray a bonnet and wings of a normal car.

Some git reversed into mine and did a runner. I went to a grage to see what the cost would be (not too bad a couple of hundred). I also asked them how much to respray te front and all in (inc paint) £500.

That's an ace price for the front repsray. Plans are offering it at £810.
