Guys, just to save you the hassle don't use Wicked Wheels to get your wheels fully refurbed.
They have had mine for 10 days and just confirmed they can't do them because of the fake bolts.
Plans Motorsport are trying a few other sources and I will let you all know how I get on.
As a side issue I'm still looking around for alternative road/track use wheels.

WW came to me recently and, after inspection and me pointing out about the bolts) we agreed that they not bother with the Noble wheels for this reason - this issue is becoming a real pain! I wonder what the wheel manufacturer's view and suggestions would be (is it MAW in SA?) - has anyone approached them (eg: they may be able to supply replacement steel bolts (or plugs) that need not be removed)?
When mine were done, the company I used gave me a quote of £60 a wheel. It cost them £127+ a wheel because of the bolts, but to fair to them they stuck to their price. Unsurprisingly they'll never touch Noble wheels again.
So it seems even if you can get the bolts, they cost an arm and a leg.

That's right, when after a quote I now point out that plug removal/insertion will take them an extra hour per wheel and are they aware of this (simply to avoid bad feeling from them having lost their margin and/or a poor job later)!
May be a silly question, but could we not remove the bolts carefully ourselves, send them for painting and then re fit them once returned?
Do the bolts unscrew or pull out or what?
My car is starting to look a little "used" and I am thinking about a front end respray and a wheel refurb to smarten things up again.

They are just stuck in. To replace them all they cost 90p each, 40 bolts per wheel, 4 wheels !
Once the wheel has been refurb, painted and lacquered the bolts may not fit back in - that seems to be the main concern.

...you've got it in one Sir!
Actually I'm thinking along the lines of leaving the bloody things out all together - should look OK with a row of empty sockets I think?!

Hi Rob
Well Graham at Plans is checking with the factory and dealers to try and solve the issue.
Fingers and toes crossed.
However, even if you do have to replace the bolts, at 90p a go it adds £36 per wheel to the cost or £144 if you get all 4 done. It's still cheaper than buying 4 new wheels from the factory.

Why not (after the wheels have been refurbed) get the bolts machined down to the measured finished hole.

It wouldn't take long to do. Set the lathe up and your only taking off a small amount (this is based on they are stuck in).
I don't have those wheels (yet) on my 2.5 but my machine shop would probably sort that out for £30 (as obviously they will claim overtime also).

They're plastic so how well would they machine down I wonder!
If there plastic (you can machine plastic), then sit down one evening over a bowl and file them down or with a sharp blade scrape a bit off.

So you're assuming all the holes are the same size? Hhhmmm again...

I'm just saying you can do it. If you have to measure each hole with a vernier then thats what you do. Personaly I would nick some Titanium Socket head screws from work and screw them into the wheels (its only aloy) although this would add a little weight.

That's a good solution
Yes, it probably will add a bit of weight but they're hardly the lightest wheels anyway, and if you were racing you wouldn't have them (they'd be 50 pence shaped after a few laps). I think Mr Merc's idea about leaving them out may be worth a try too.

And cut through the laquer to give a nice starter point for some electrolytic corrosion........

Not if you use a surface treatment (Allochrome) for the aloy after the cutting of the thread. We have a Lab and a metirials dep who can do anything.
If there's a will there's a way.
