This is something I'm playing with for my forthcoming 3R; my empeg-car MP3 player will mount in the usual place in front of the passenger, but the driver gets his own 128x32 pixel VFD in the revcounter.

The pictures here are of a revcounter that I've disassembled and modified to fit the display. It's not finished (the clear plastic needs more cutting away, the VFD needs a filter to improve contrast, and the metal dial needs a hole cutting in it) but you get the idea.

Currently the display just mirrors the main unit, but if I can get any information out of the ECU I'd love to add some car vital statistics!

Looks good to me Hugo.

Agree it needs the contrast turning down a little but other than that seems good.

Is the rev counter the same size as the one in the Noble? It just looks a little small on the pictures, maybe because it's not in the dash.

It's actually a genuine Noble one so yes, it is the same size. Lee found one with a load of dust inside it that I could take away.

www.greengauges.com/ are the custom dials division of www.caigauge.com/Customised_Vehicle_Instruments_and_Gauges.htm who make the dials for the Noble. There's an online configurator - you can specify a dial almost identical (apart from the actual lettering on the dial) to the Noble one. They seem very helpful!

You could get some sensors from someone like stack and replicate the functionality of their ST700 unit? Oil temp and pressure would be useful...

Not had a chance to finish it up yet, though with my car not due until June (or later) I'm not in a huge hurry (yet!)
