Thanks for the reply, no problem, i just didn't know what your budjet was. Hope you are sucessful in finding a good one, you should be able to get a good example for £30K.
Insurance wise some people have had good results with Tesco, I used a company in Manchester called AutoTorque. (just google for it) They are actually a broker and found a few good quotes depending on trackday use requirements, tracker fitted or not, and so on. They were very helpful and enthusiasic about the specialist car market. Sure others will also have some advice.
Regards

Richard

I personally don't use it everyday but some people do. These cars are aluminium skinned underneath, rivitted into the box section chassis so I try to keep off salted roads at all times. There has been a discussion about this on the forum - no definative answer though. There are people on this site far better qualified than me to give you advice, although I do have practical backgroung (used to change my own clutches / rebuild engines etc, when I was younger).
They are fine in the wet, providing you drive them sensibly, obviously they are fairly powerful and light weight, wheelspin is just a prod away!
Certainally i think that if you buy off pistonheads you will find the owners enthusiastic and will give you honest information, most people seem to love their cars and spend what is required (and more) on keeping them in good condition.
You should have my contact details so do honestly feel free to give me a ring (leave your number if ans machine)and I can certainally tell you about the info I learnt on my road into the Nobility!!

I managed to buy a GTO3 for 30k recently in good condition a couple of weeks ago..
It's my only car and I use it everyday for the short trip to work.
I've had no problems up till now and it's fine in the wet aslong as you don't let the turbo's kick in unless your ready for them.
My only advice is to run the car for couple of mins to let it warm up before making any short journys.. Obviously for the longer journeys you can just keep it under 3.5k for few miles untill it's warm.. Would you believe I've had only one dry day since buying the car to play with it in the last week or so.. but Summer is coming!
Good Luck finding a car.. GTO3's for 30k do come arround every now and then but you need to keep your eye's peeled and be ready to make a quick offer.. I suggest looking at some examples between now and then so you can spot a good deal.

There's a cracking blue GTO3 at Vegantune in Borehamwood which is in the classifieds. It's a private sale but being stored at VT for now (had a look at it the other day when they were fixing a coolant leak on mine)

www.pistonheads.com/sales/55596.htm

To be honest I would pop an LSD on it but you should be able to pick up the car and get the LSD fitted for £30k

You sure that is a GTO3, looks like a 2.5 to me.

Hmmm, not sure. I was just nosing around while they were fixing a coolant leak on my car. I just noticed it was for sale and price seemed reasonable for the condition of the car.

Thats definatley a GTO3 has been advertised for a while and has the twin exhausts. I think the mileage must be putting people off. Looks like a bargain to me though.

Have you seen it? Not got the 3 decals, also never seen an advert for an early 3 that does not state it is a 3, also a lot of the 2.5's had the twin exhausts done. Also i would say the milage is not bad at all, it will be a 3 year old car, nice to see it has been driven.

Thanks guy's lots of information for me to take in and nice to see so many people willing to help out, as i am from scotland one thing that was said is sticking in my mind about the salt on the road we get a lot of that up here and i also live next to the beach. is there any evidence of this being true and is there any way to protect from this apart from only driving it in the dry?

The one I bought had all the exhausts wrapped and the chassis was also foil wrapped. I was told that the problem with corrosion is that the exhaust gets hot causing the chassis's paint to melt and then allow corrosion. Don't know how much of this is correct, but worth bearing in mind!!

The powdercoat on the early cars was a bit fragile in heat sensitive areas, it is a easy fix, a half day with a wire brush and some new "cold" powdercoat.
Dont worry too much about the salt, never heard of problems apart from that area(and it is only surface rust).
There is a few scotish owners, they dont seem to have problem. Good luck with the search.
