Faulks BOV's

I was wondering about the main differences between the Race BOV and the standard BOV.

I did email Matt and got a reply the first time round. He said that the main difference to a standard 3R would be the noise and the the fact that the Race BOV doesn't have a filter.

But, not knowing much about these things, what difference does not having a filter mean? I like the sound of slightly more noise... (and no, I have not taken a liking to Burberry caps... yet.)

IMHO. i think the filter is a complete waste of time, is prone to getting oiled up and becoming detached. Air is only released under positive pressure so it is very unlikley to "suck" in anything. Plus if you look at 95% of other DV they dont have filters.
Go for the race one.
(But I could be wrong!! )

Apparantly not.

Mine blew off as it was saturated in oil.

Now I can hear a "pssst" sound when I lift/change gear c.f. the filter in place when it was fairly quiet.

Matt is correct.

I have the race valve, the only difference is noise

The oil issue needs to be addressed separately, but the noise is reduced by the filter. The new filters I believe are closed cell (so don't absorb much of anything) and have a different bonding agent so don't come way from the plastic mounting rings. Got through 2 of the old ones in quick succession -new one that Matt gave me at Brands is still working fine.

The filter is there to guard against the tiny (and it is seriously tiny)! risk of any crap being sucked into the intake.

Like alex says though the pressure is almost always positive so it can't really do it!
