PH'ers
I'm trying to pick your collective brains here. I managed to save the majority of my redundancy payoff and have also saved a good amount form my new job, so the plan of a sportscar for me in the spring has been approved. Research done and I was all set to go and find an S1 Elise 111s when I was browsing the Christopher Neil website. Up pops a second hand Noble M10, cue big spanner in the works
I remember a quite a bit about this car, 2.5ltr V6 from Ford etc and that apparently handling was "better" than the S1 Elise. Unfortunately I've long since chucked away the magazines that had the reviews in.
However, I need to retain some degree of practicality. Does anyone know about the source of the rest of the major components? I'm thinking of things as simple as replacment windscreens and everyday consumables.
For me this could be a good answer, a mid engine 2 seater convertible with a good deal poke and a nice V6 noise. Dare I say it, a kind of mini GTC
I'm contacting the factory to find out more detailed info, but anything you guys & gals would be willing to share in the meantime would be useful.
Happy Christmas

I didnt like it at all I'm sorry to say.. I seem to remember a nasty wood veneer dash and an altogether unappealing look. I spoke to Lee Noble at the factory and even he admitted it was not a great success
The elise would be a far more sensible choice paricularly from the point of view of servicing

Whilst a bit fussy - I quite liked the shape. I like the M12 a lot more (but then it's got an "Elise MK1" front end which I adore), but the M10 wasn't *that* bad..

Thanks for throwing the Chimaera into the equation
Being a petrolhead like the rest of us I just love the rumble of that good old V8. What a soundtrack.
Unfortunately Mrs CVP has very discriminating taste. She thinks the Chimaera is "old fashioned & ugly" (her words not mine - honest).
It's not all bad though, she thinks the Tuscan and new T350C are just brilliant and I'm told that a new Aston V8 Vantage would be perfectly acceptable. See what I mean about taste Plus she's a bit of a petrolhead and likes a good dose of speed (usual caveats about right place, right time etc). Top girl overall maybe that's why I married her
Unfortunately there's the small issue of where to find that much cash. Certainly doesn't come with the accounting job I know I should have paid more attention when computers first started coming into schools but I got bored with all the misloading onto the ZX81. Guess that identifies my age pretty accurately.
So what I need is something fun to drive, relatively easy to fix if it goes wrong and £15k - £17k ish. No need to be too practical as we have the tin top for that.
So what's the potential list?
Quattro - one of the proper ones. Getting a good one is difficult now though. I'm sure not all owners look after theirs like Joust You can hear that offbeat howl from the five cylinder now. I'll never forget hearing/seeing one of the proper one blast past me in a forest - wonderful.
Alfa SZ - I love this but realistically they'll never come into my price bracket. For me it's beautifully ugly.
Integrale EVO II- lovely but try to find a good one, not easy
Griffith/Chimaera - binned by Mrs CVP. I'll have to try to persuade her again as that rumble is so so seductive. I'm sure she'd love it if she drove one.
Tuscan/Tamora - not yet affordable
Proper old M3 - has a certain appeal. I could even live with being labelled as a BMW driver (apologies to other considerate BMW PH'ers, but you all get tarred with the same brush due to the antics of the bad apples)
Escort Cosworth - don't know why but I quite fancy one. Maybe it's the lad in me trying to get out from under the mild mannered accountant cover Getting a decent one might be tricky now.
Impreza - lovely car but it doesn't do it for like a quattro
Elise - maybe the sensible compromise between all out fun and something that I can afford to run
Esprit - possible. I still love the shape even after all these years.
Marcos - possible, haven't asked the style police yet
Any other I should be considering?
