Hard drive camcorder mount

Hague do a good in car camcorder mounting kit that some of you guys use. Has anyone used a Hard Drive camcorder with this kit. I'm buying one and not sure if the built in shut off software will keep switching the camera off when under vibration.

Why are you choosing HD and not the far better all round miniDV?

Hard drive is less playing around and easier to sort files out with pc. This JVC modle MG50 is also very small with 30Gb drive. This would be used as a camcorder and sometimes in the car.

All has changed now. I have just brought on ebay a multimedia AV system that will record video at almost DVD quality. All i need now is a wireless or bullet camera.

Good plan.

The HD cams are no where near the quality of DV (yet) and they are a nightmare to edit on a PC where the DV is a sinch. (once you have imported it all)


rfconcepts are the folks for the bullet cams.

Go to www.archos.com and look at their AV systems. A guy at work uses this set up with the AV500 and a wireless cam and gets very good quality when the camera is attached to his remote plane.

I've brought the AV700 from ebay at a good price. I do a lot of train gourneys so this will also come in handy for watching films.

My plan is to mount the wireless cam in or out side of the car. the AV will sit in the fitted luggage that is clipped to the passanger seat. It has a remote for easy stop and start recording.

Argos sell the AV700 (7" screen) for £380. I got mine with TV tuner and other bits for £230.

The JVC MG50 camcorder records at a 8.5bit rate when DVD is 9 this is very close and not noticable.

I was under the impression that DV was about 25 mps.

Been geeking out about this over on the video forum for a while. I was all set to get an HD but the other chaps talked me out of it for those reasons.

Archos thing is a great idea. Kinda wish I had done that now instead of spending £700 in a dv cam thats already been superseeded! DOH!!

I would 100% disagree. There is no importing from a HDD camcorder, just drag and drop your clips onto the computer, load them into an editing package and burn. I have had 90 minutes of footage off my MG50 and onto a DVD in under 20 minutes - seriously (this was only with a bit of basic editing of course).

I can only assume the speed of creating the image for the DVD is that is does not re-render the video as it's all standard mpeg2 to start with. When I used to edit mini DV stuff it took ages to a) import to the PC and b) render ready to be burnt to the DVD.

Have you used the MG50 fixed inside the car while driving? Does it shut off as it has protection software?

I have had a passenger filming a lot and never had it shut down on me even when driving hard. I have never had it fixed but it needs quite a knock or sudden movement to shut down so I don't think you'd have a problem unless you hit a massive pot hole or something.

I've been very impressed with the camera. I also have a miniDV and microMV and the MG50 is definitely my favourite.
