Dear All,
What's the view? The spaceframe is steel. There are hundreds of entry points were the screws that hold the underfloor in place puncture the walls of the frames. Mix together the steel, Aluminium, whatever the screws are made of, water and road salt = corrosion.
Should we be waxoyl-ing the chassis members? Would be easy enough to do. A few strategicaly drilled holes and just pour it in. Might weep through the holes though.

Paul, i was thinking of doing this when the engine is out, as the powdercoat is of a fairly cr*p quality, i guess for the cost it has to be well worth it in the long run. Shame they didnt galvanise the space frame in production. I am sure the weigth gain wont add up to much.

I researched this a bit as my RS also has no underseal. Filling the chassis members is a bit of a specialist job and if done wrong may actually lead to water traps that will make things worse not better. Do some googling and you'll find arguments both ways.

Of note, the later cars had a proper powder coated chassis as opposed to the painted frame of the earlier cars.

I have also been pondering this one. The Aircraft Engineers at work think that 'Dinitrol' may be a better option. Aparrently it is much thinner than Waxoyl and easier / less messy to apply. There are diffefent kinds avaliable, corrosion prevention / water repellant etc. The idea would be to drill one rivit out of each chassis tube and apply using a very thin plastic pipe poked along each section. The hole would obviously then be re-rivitted. This should deal with preventing internal corossion.In any event he electrolytic action between the chassis and rivets presumably is going to have an effect long term but what timescale? Are they going to eventually become loose, i don't know. It would be a great shame if these cars ended up with chassis corrosion problems in the future if we could do something about it know. Ultimas have been around a long time and have rivited panels, wonder what their owners do?
