Can you remove the steering wheel pad on 3R's ?

I am not particularly fond of the matching steering wheel pad that goes with whatever interior colour is with the car. Can it be removed / replaced without leaving glue stains etc and whats the wheel like underneath ??

If your not a fan of it, then I would put money on you eventually changing the entire wheel. Lots of owners have (see jousts website) and there are a host of functional and pretty ones out there with defferent boss depths and removable bosses too.

Otherwise, yes, you can take off the center pad and reveal the momo badge beneath.

The pad is removed by taking off the 3 rubber nut covers behind the wheel. Then undo the 3 nyloc nuts with a 6 (or 8) mm socket or spanner. Gently pull the pad away from the wheel.

You will be left with 3 holes where the studs holding the pads were, and revealing the countersunk bolts holding the wheel to the boss. And the Momo logo.

I have just fitted the OMP 60 mm spacer which brings the wheel closer. I'm going to run with this for a while before trying a smaller 320 diameter stering wheel. The standard wheel is 350mm. Demon Tweeks did a good job in next day delivery of the OMP spacer.

As said above you can easily remove it, but it leaves 3 rather iffy looking holes in the wheel.

The Richbrook wheel is a direct replacement and much much nicer IMHO.

You could contersink the holes left from the pad studs, and then match the black countersink bolts with nuts on the back of the wheel spokes. Bit of a faf, and might not look totally finished, but do-able.

Yes it is/was (I seem to recall someone saying that the model was discontinued?!).

Yes - and you can find them from early 2.5l M12 owners that didn't have the pad.

I have a spare one if you would like to make me an offer for it.
