You can wear the release compound off on track too
If the tread on your current tyres is already very low, they will likely be offering less grip than designed anyway.DanH said:

Maybe a couple of burnouts (when the marshalls aren't looking) will do the trick

Don't forget that new tyres take a bit of scrubbing in to remove the (release agent) coating before they work properly. Just in case you were thinking of getting new tyres fitted at the circuit to use on track.

5 laps shuld be enough to scrub in a new set of tyres.

Bugger, that many? Hmmmm, I might need to ask you to do them for me!
I am not after more so3's really as I have a kindly donated set of A048's in the garage ready fro the warmer weather later in the year. I will keep my so3 fronts and then put them back on with new so3 backs next winter.
