I would expect the new M12GTO 3 to have a slighty higher top speed , but the acceleration to remain unchanged due to the slightly lower torque per ton.

2.6L = 980KG 310BHP (316BHP/TON) 320LB/FT (326LB/FT PER TON)

3L = 1050KG 340BHP ( 323BHP/TON) 340LB/FT (323IB/FT per ton)

The initial getaway may be better due to the slighty increased weight over the back so maybe a 0-60 of 3.8ish instead of 3.9. Just have to wait until Autocar get their hands on one to test.

Anyone know why the 70kg weight increase from the 2.5 to 3. Mondeo seems to increase only 21kgs, assuming the ST220 removes additional weight (don't know if it actually does) still seems a big difference?

I have a 3 litre on the road,car no 99 the noise is a lot different still the waste gate characteristic (darth vader)noise but the engine roar with the new exhaust is much louder and at about 4000 revs everyone looks at you! Still working on the acceleration + top end as its not run in fully but it feels obviously more torquey.My log book shows the weight the same as the 2.5 engine. 980kg possibly an oversight by noble admin!

The 70KG weight difference is on the 3R due to the additional sound-proofing and LSD. I'd imagine the standard GTO-3 would tip in roughly the same as the 2.5L car.

So the 3L still has the wastegate noise ? Glad to hear that as i have the GTC on order for the summer and i'm addicted to the noise in my GTO now

When I was at the factory I had a look at the 3R and the air filter/induction set up has changed compared to the normal car; instead of the air filters being just behind the driver/passenger, they're now in the ducting that goes to the intercooler.

This is supposed to reduce noise a bit (in line with the 3R being for people like me who can't hack raw all the time ), so it'll be interesting to see how the 3L with repositioned intakes sounds in comparison to the 3L with the old air filter positioning.
