follow the link and there are some pictures to fill in my great verbiage.
Got tired of having to readjust the cable operated side mirrors every time I closed the doors and/or drove the car. So I decided to convert them electric.
Step 1: Buy a left and a right wing mirror for a 1999-2003 Rover 25 (www.ebay.co.uk example http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Rover-25-P...item25ae895... )
Step 2: Remove the glass from the housings. Take a screwdriver and gently wedge between the mirror and the side cover on the extreme outside of the mirror. Take a second screwdriver and gently wedge between mirror and the cover on the extreme inside and the glass will release/pop loose.
Step 3: Gently pop out the electric mirror sub-assembly. Its held in with three snap/push on (ball) sockets. A well placed screwdriver and light pressure and the sub-assembly will pop out. Label and disconnect the two electric plugs.
Step 4: Gently pop out the cable mirror sub-assembly. Its held in with three snap/push on (ball) sockets. A well placed screwdriver and light pressure and the sub-assembly will pop out. After its out you can remove the three adjustment cables. Push the cables back into the door.
Temp Step 5: Pop in the electric mirror sub-assembly into the Noble mirror housing. Again, its held in with three snap/push on (ball) sockets.
Temp Step 6: Reattach the mirror to the electric mirror sub-assembly. (see Step 2)
At this point I have manual “Electric” mirrors that I adjust by pushing on the glass. The advantage to this setup is that, yes you need to manually adjust the mirrors, but…. the adjustment does not change every time you close the door, or drive the car, or park the car!
Phase two will be to take the doors apart and run wires and the mount electric mirror adjustment switch, but it aint snowing yet, so that can wait! Time to go drive.
