Front Brake Discs

Hi guys can anybody recommend front brake discs & pads for my 02 -2.5 M12-GTO..
I had them lazer skimmed on the car about 3 year ago and new pads fitted but but time has come to bite the bullet and replace them now as they sound like a giant mouse has moved in under braking and have been told by my mechanic that I should replace them .. thanx

I have bought new discs a couple of weeks ago, I enquired about the grooved ones but the guy said unless you track it then its not very beneficial, he also said the grooved were not quite so readily available. Mine were about £450 inc VAT for the front pair, still yet to fit them, When I did go to fit them I also found the Allen key for the bolts was a 4-5 mm

This is admittedly after track time, but nonetheless highlights how rubbish the drilled discs are. All 4 of my discs went like this!I know that Jetstream can supply the Alcon discs.
Groved AP discs weren't hard for me to source and I think the same price as drilled.

Did you clean out the holes before that trackday? It's advisable to clean out the dust from the holes so they can disperse the heat as that's what they're designed for and it stops this issue.I know that Jetstream can supply the Alcon discs.

It's something that I'd done from time to time, but not religiously before every track day.I really doubt whether it would have made any difference. It's the hot / cold cycles on track that make the discs prone to cracking at their weak spots - the holes. They're vented anyway, so even if the holes were plugged they wouldn't have made that much difference to peak temps.

These are the AP grooved discs, so not floating - the bolts clamp tight to the bell.Also did you have trouble removing the old floating disc bolts?

Jetstream sourced the discs together with the bolt fitting kit. Was a couple of years ago, but IIRC not much over £250 for the pair.
No problem removing the old bolts or installing new - just WD40. Just takes a little bit of time to torque them all up correctly.

Standard disks are drilled.
Slotted or groved disks provide a better "feel" and are generally easy to modulate. They also cope with heat better than drilled version and are more resistant to cracking.
Slotted AP discs are available from Plans Motorsport and main dealers. The rear disks are also now available for the M400/3R/3. Slotted/grooved discs are available for the rears on 2.5L cars.

These are genuine AP discs AP Part Number CP3580-1131/0-CR8 - usual retail price 253.28 inc VAT plus shipping each.
CP2494-18 Bell fitting kit
These discs are a straight swap for the standard discs and are an easy DIY fit.
Front discs (grooved AP Racing) come as rotors only, and you need to get fitting kit to attach them to the bell (12 nuts/bold for each side).
Removal of old nuts/bolts may be problematic as they tend to weld together with the heat.
Note that you need 3/16AF Allen key for the bolts (Latest ones use torx heads so you need a female torx socket).
The torque for the bolts is 11 lbs/ft or 14 Nm
