Alternator issues
Discussion
Pretty difficult to do with the battery in place !! Basically you remove drivers wheel plus arch infil , drop battery out the bottom then you should be able to get it off ! Not easy but I've done it twice . Is it the original alternator ?
Ford have stopped using brand new units and now supply re-engineered units so I would not bother paying the xtra !! Jetstream supplied my last unit .

Mine failed, I replaced with a ford unit, turns out a re-engineered one, failed within 2 months in a similar way to the behaviour your describing. Problem is after a while of flickering light, my speedo got fed up with the voltage changes and sulked. Then the lights were dim/bright/dim bright on a drive back from the ferry one night. It had to be replaced (I did the first one myself, its a bh without ramps) second one I got SWLotus Centre to do it for £280 labour !
Read what you will in to that.

I have just had a faulty alternator replaced too. In the course of which, it emerged that the alternator feed went to the wrong side of the 80amp fuse. In other words, any alternator/regulator fault leading to an over voltage could potentially fry much of the loom/ecu etc!
Mine has been redirected to the upside of the 80amp fuse. Suggest anyone reading this checks their wiring and adjusts if necessary.
