M12 for sale KU02 XKP
Discussion
Good evening, I have been toying with the idea of buying a noble on and off and there isn't many for sale ( only 3 currently advertised for sale on PH )
Now this one seems quite cheap but its leggy on the miles but does anyone know it ?
Or is it a total steer clear ?
https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...
The two others for sale are both in my budget but prices are quite far apart between them all, being from Scotland I'm limited to viewing or even getting a feel for one in the flesh so does any one know the other two ?
https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...
And
https://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/used-cars/...
Does anyone have any opinions or history of these cars ?
I have just sold my m3 and looking to get into something a little more special, it will live in the garage mostly 3/4K miles a year max.
Thanks
Allan

My humble opinion is...
It'll depend largely on what you intend to use the car for and how long you believe you'll keep it. If you're looking to have a fun year or two then I'd say push for the second one or even the 3R (hopefully with a different plate unless that's how you swing) as they'll be more likely a solid investment, with the 3R more so.
Bear in mind that many owners bought their car for this very reason but have surpassed the 5 & 10yr ownership mark with ease because there just isn't anything else you can buy to satisfy your needs without 3x (or more) the budget, so we're kind of stuck, but in a good way!
If you're planning a lot of trackdays then consider the leggy one, but it must have an ATB (if the owner doesn't know, lift the back of the car and spin a wheel by hand. If the other one goes the same way then it's got one. If it spins the opposite direction then it's open and you'll blow it up one day. You just will). You could of course search this forum for modifications that can be done and if you think even for a minute that you might go down that route then be careful!! A huge amount of time and money can be thrown at these cars to make them awesome (although they are in standard form anyway) and in that case your best bet is to spend as little on the car to purchase as possible because you'll be replacing virtually every single part at some point anyway and then mileage becomes totally irrelevant.
My personal choice for my needs would be the 3R, with a different plate and moved back to where it should be. It'll look a whole lot neater at the front and less kit car like. It's had a few of the essential mods done already and could be completely left as is.

I think the high price 2.5 needs more info as with that many low miles I would be worried that essential mods have not been carried out. If you can afford a 3R then that's what I would get.
However, I have a 2.5 and in my 12th year of ownership. On 63k miles.
I think you end up spending quite a bit on these cars so buying the cheaper one potential gives you 10k to get it to a better state. Like engine rebuild/stronger with gear box and clutch. Maybe some cooling mods. There is a 2.5 that's just hit 100k miles on and clutch. But it has a reasonably easy life.

On further digging , the low mile care at 32k is a cat D aswell.
Spoke to the seller of the cheaper one. It has been to noble motorsport for an inspection and some bits rectified. It still needs a fair bit of tidying up according to the report. But they tackled some of them.
However it's been compression tested results are
CYL 1 - 170 PSI - 40% Leakage
CYL 2 - 170 PSI - 50% Leakage
CYL 3 - 160 PSI - 40% Leakage
CYL 4 - 175 PSI - 20% Leakage
CYL 5 - 165 PSI - 25% Leakage
CYL 6 - 180 PSI - 25% Leakage
The car is cheapish but I'm not sure what a rebuild or new engine cost would be, as I would be wanting to get this done. No point having a car down on power. It made 280bhp on their rollers. Ideally I would be looking for 400ish.
It won't be a track car, my intention would be to have a mint occasional use car/garage queen.

Where are you based?
I'm in Scotland too (Hamilton) & have been thinking about selling mine, although every time I drive it I decide I want to keep it LOL!
2003 GTO3 with 44K miles, over my 4 years of ownership its had £20K of Jetstream treatment including brakes, suspension, engine, & gearbox upgrades, plus all the pro alloy stuff + loads of carbon bits.
Currently running 440 BHP / 425 LBft (Mapped by Trevor Jasper).
You would be welcome to come & see it even just to get an idea of what to look for?
Cheers,
Davie.

My 2.5 was 280BHP, remap and exhuast took it much higher. At 380bhp the pistons gave up (2 other cars that I know of did similar). If the cheaper one has an MBE ECU then getting power at least back to std should be easy enough. As I mentioned before, if you go the re build route then gear box/clutch should be done and I would strengthen the engine so if you brought it and did all this then 10k should cover this and some other bits. Best speak to Noblemotorsport or Jetstream regarding rebuild etc costs.Spoke to the seller of the cheaper one. It has been to noble motorsport for an inspection and some bits rectified. Allan, not letting me email you, I have a 3R that I have yet to advertise that will be coming up, I'm looking for slightly more than the Scottish car, but it has had almost everything done to it. If you're interested, drop me a mail. Cheers Paul
That's a pity as there are only few of us in Devon as it is!wessexrfc said:

There's quite a few Scottish chaps about if your looking for a look round cars for an idea what to look out for. Where is it you are based?
I know davids car is certainly well spec'd, I've met David but not seen his car however close friends have and commented on it being in great condition. David, can't say I'm not disappointed in you! Lol all the best with the sale though if you do decide to sell it.

That's a great offer mate thank you, would be good to see one before venturing into the unknown completely blind. No matter how much research or reading up you do it's not the same thing as getting a look round a car properly and speaking to some one who's not just interested in taking your money.
