Is it a nightmare to change the battery .. ie gain access ... my mechanic has looked under the car and says it's a real bh to get to ... is he bluffing????.... Thanx

I changed mine not long ago (no mechanical experience at all really) with the benefit of a pit (albeit only 5 feet deep!), and yes it was awkward - it doesn't seem to just fall out through the slot allocated without tipping it on end - it seemed to me due to a lot of pipework running down the adjacent bulkhead (which runs alongside the slot for the battery). I spilt acid all over the place. Likewise when I put the new one back it wouldn't just push up flat and level I had to tip it (and push with some force). It was more difficult than I anticipated but then I am pretty hopeless. A mechanic should persevere much better I would have thought, and had I been able to stand entirely upright that would have helped. Getting to the cables and the bar that holds the battery in was not a problem, just getting the battery through the hole. Sounds nuts saying it was difficult to change the battery really when you look at what everyone else gets up to!

I changed mine on the drive, awkward yes but didn't think it was too bad. putting the new one back in was the worst bit, it would have been easier if someone had held the battery up for me as they are heavy.

I helped change another owners battery in sainsbury's car park a few weeks back, only took an hour and scuffed and scratched arms.

Don't forget to heat wrap the battery if your putting it back again!
