I am just looking to change my rear tyres and someone asked what strength of sidewall was I considering. I had never given it any thought and looking at the tyres I currently have the fronts are 92Y and the rears are 97Y. All the tyres are Bridgestone Potenza's but now I notice that the rears are RE50A and the Fronts S001. The latter I bought myself and was told they were the replacement for the RE50A but I notice these are still available.
Should the sidewall specification be the same front and back? Or is this variation normal due to the size of the tyre being different? Now I have s001 on the front should I really fit the same on the back?
Many thanks in advance for any assistance given.

The number is the load index ,Nobles are very light cars so not likely to be an issue the next letter is the speed rating which should be at least the same as the top speed or in excess for safety reasons. All explained here

It's not unusual for staggered sizes to have different load ratings, what's important is that it at least meets the minimum load rating specified by factory.
As for the tyres, neither the S001 or RE050 are particularity good tyres, but you're right in saying the S001 replaced the RE050 so I would choose to match with those if you want to stay with the Bridgestone family.
