Dehumidifier and garage heating
Discussion
Hi, a simple air conditioning system may be the best answer, wall mounted internal unit, external condensing unit, most are heat pump and will do heating / cooling / de-humidification... I've got a few fairly new ones that came out of an office when I converted to flats, and am sticking one in mine, i'll let you know how well it works and see if there is one that is the correct size for your garage?

I bought a dehumidifier on Friday. My garage is un-insulated and gets cold. I used dry-it-out limited. Rang them and left a message. They rang me back and talked me through what I would need, which was great because I wasn't sure what size I needed, or type, and I would have bought a more expensive model. I needed a desiccant version which you need for cold buildings. Anyway it's all on their web site, or give them a ring if you want to go down that route. They also do heaters. Ordered it and it came the next day. I can't believe how much moisture I'm getting out. A full tank every day (10L).
I have a Meaco Junior (see below). Fills its tank in roughly 24-36 hours. They all come with a drain hose (bypassing the tank), have been meaning to fit an exit hose to outside the garage so I never need to empty it again.
Mine's connected to a mains wi-fi/IP switch operatable from my phone so I power it on only when I think there's more moisure around. Why, because they do use power when set to permanent on - maybe not much, haven't checked.
So, a feature to look for (and the Meaco's do this) is, a lot of models when they switch off won't restart again after the power is restored (say following a power cut) - or when you switch back on via said wi-fi switch.
Another feature to seek out is a model that cycles (on startup and after measuring the amount of moisture in the air (Meaco's do this too)

PS - the amount of water they collect will amaze you. Almost makes you paranoid about removing moisture from the air
PPS - Re heating, I don't bother but if I did I'd look at a grenhouse heater - low power and always on won't bankrupt you.

Thanks for the link! I've needed to replace a failed dehumidifier for a few months so have just bought the one recommended in that link, and got the discount mentioned.http://www.rx8ownersclub.co.uk/forum/viewtopic.php...
