Just asking the Noble collective what you all thought, is it going the same way as PH and getting too long-in-the-tooth??
I found it, (only caught it as they tested the Nomad) tedious, repetitive, pointless and Chris Evans is such hard work to watch, hard enough to listen too, but just bearable, Matt was good, but that was the only thing I found positive!!!
There is such a huge gap in the market for a good, informative and entertaining car/bike/motorsports programme. It will be interesting to see what Clarkson (who I also find irritating
) comes up with!!!!

Don't know if it will be all road trips etc or will it focus on any current car related news? time will tell no doubt. Really got me quizzing about the vipers rear wing though- they did say a tonne downward pressure right? seems a lot to me! How much does a standard noble produce?
I was looking forward to it but found it very disappointing.
Some elements were pathetic.
If that's the best they can do with their first ( come back) episode then I can't imagine the rest will be any better.
And, couldn't they have found some better cars? Reliant Rialto's for gods sake!!

Well, as usual my wife, daughter and her friend waited for TG to start before commencing their loud conversation, so I struggled to hear! However, from what I did see and hear, it wasn't great. I was really looking forward to it and was always positive in the run up that it was going to all be fine. I don't have a problem with Chris Evans and thought he'd be good. So, here we go:
Great camera work as previous show, particularly during the Viper scenes which I enjoyed. Sabine should not speak.
Reliant scene didn't actually do anything. Two presenters get in cars, one breaks down immediately, flat bed, Blackpool. End.
Audience just looked awkward somehow and just didn't react as previous audiences. Very strange.
Matt Le Blanc is NOT Joey, he's Matt Le Blanc and is therefore dull and scripted. Though the Ariel scene was good and shot well.
I'm in two minds about the Star in a Reasonably Priced Car. Might have to get used to it.
Jeep vs Landy should have been ok, but it did feel like it was scripted and trying too hard to be like old TG.
I will watch every episode and believe it will settle in, but I'd say the whole thing felt a bit like one of those live charity TV shows like Red Nose etc. where everything feels clunky, awkward and unrehearsed.

I think the problem is the format is the same. If they ripped up the top gear format of old, then the audience reception may have been better. Unfortunately TG is a global brand with massive marketable equity - so that's why the format is similar and therefore comparable to the old show.
Personally I always preferred Fifth Gear to top gear as Tiff and Jason Plato offered the mental, controlled, head to heads races I enjoyed - without the stupid challenges.
However the new line up does show some promise. They need to get Chris Harris on the main show to give the technical credibility.

I agree with those saying that they should have built their own format, I mean we all love cars so in that respect it has a good start, but seeing them act and talk like Clarkson et al (hesitations, raised inflections, banter, etc) was really weird. This format was imagined and brought to life by others and I couldn't help think it will never attain much respect because of this.
I think you will find it was their own format.... the idea that it was all JC's show isn't correct, it was just presented like that, I don't think he made the show at all, never been a fan of him or Evans tbh.
I had found that the 'show' had previously become very 'samey' and scripted.... but it was a major success, I'm not the least surprised they kept the format. I did like the new track idea.
They don't yet have chemistry thats for sure, hopefully that will develop over time as it did before. and some of it made no sense to me at all, like the drive to blackpool wtf?
But overall i think it has potential and i certainly will watch it again... then again I resigned myself years ago to the fact that it was an entertainment show with some cars in it, rather than a entertaining car show.... I watch Fast and Loud and stuff like that for the car shows now.

I might be wrong but I think Jeremy Clarkson (and the producer - Wilman?) started Top Gear and owned the company that had all the rights to it. A 50% stake was originally sold to the BBC and I think they bought the remainder of the company recently (but before he was sacked). It's possible JC is still receiving royalties also (but not sure the details of the arrangement). This gave JC a lot of control over the format etc which evolved over time.

Regular Car Reviews - unique sense of humour, love him or hate him. Personally I find him very funny and reminds me that if you can't take the piss out of yourself and your own car you are going to have a very hard time getting through life.

Mighty Car Mods - one for younger viewers really but still very very entertaining and you can't help but love the two guys. I'm not one for Jap cars but their enthusiasm for vehicles is second to none, regardless of what they are or what 'scene' they represent.

I'm with most, the old TG had long since lost its way and had become dull and the same old thing, have a challenge, buy a car, drive into each other blar, blar, blarr. But they did work well off each other and had some "chemistry". The filming, as before was great and they seem to spend most of their buget on this and not the script!! It's a shame they have taken the old lead and produced it for their main audience of 10 year olds!!!
