Tight and squeaky pedal

Be careful, this could be the throttle cable starting the fray within the sheath. I would look to replace cable once you've had a play to determine. Mine was doing this once it got hot.
The mat is fine, as I looked at that first. I did have the tunnel cooling mod but is that irrelevant to the fraying?bernhund said:

The cable goes down the tunnel and out over the front turbo - that's where the heat problem lies.
On inspection you couldn't see much visible damage to my old cable, but it was enough to make it stick.
It's a common problem. The solution is to replace the cable and route it down the driver's side side-pod, rather than through the tunnel. It reaches - just.
Having said all that, I wouldn't associate the problem with a squeaky peddle, as the damage is done in the engine-bay.
