Tyre selection
Discussion
An old topic, yes...
Planning to change tyres soon. Have Avon ZZ3s at the moment and after a good few thousand miles don't think they suit the car. Nervous a high speed (though a little more toe in might help), and not a huge amount of grip.
So,
Pilot sport cup 2s at £624 a set, or A08-Rs at £538 a set?
Will be used in the damp/wet and on cold days so it's not all about ultimate track-day grip. Average about 5k miles a year but predict this will drop to 3k/year.
Thanks

Not sure about the PS Cup 2's but the original cups don't like the wet or cold. They don't work below 7 degree (I think) ambient temp either so worth bearing in mind if used primarily as a road tyre.
I use PS cups as my track tyre, but have another set of wheels/tyres for road use, as they only come with 4.5mm tread so don't last an awful long time anyway.
I'm considering a set of pilot super sports for my new rota wheels which will be for road use. Should be a decent bet for all round use

I considered the cups for the rotas bit like you say they only come with reduced tread and they are quite expensive.
My porsche had pilot super sports on and they are very good so I have fitted them. Not used the car enough on them to give a verdict though, decent price from camskill and they come with full depth tread

Hi,
I was also looking to change to the Michelin super sports, the fronts are available in the correct size but only 275/35/18 available for the rear, will they be ok with the extra width?
If not what are the best tyres for fast road use in the dry possible wet if I get caught out in it, it's just a weekend car,I manage 150 miles between mot's at the moment. Boo hoo

Has anyone tried Federal RSR's on, my son has them on his Focus RS and loves them
Thanks for input so far. There's a thread that discusses the RSRs here:
