So I turn on the AC and there is this loud mechanical noise behind me. It is not constant it just comes on and off regularly.

The AC is still cold. So it does seem to be working.

Why is it making this noise? Also I notice that if I don't have the AC on and blow cold air it is actually very warm.

It never used to be like this.

Any ideas? Haven't used the car for a bit as I have literally just had a baby a couple of weeks ago. Our first! So still in shock.

Not sure why yours has changed - could be the ac fluid needs topping-up (even though you say it works cold OK).

It's normal for all ac compressor pumps to click in on and off and the M12's is situated directly behind you.

Warm air when the ac is off isn't unusual as there's a lot of hot air in the engine bay and some creeps into the cabin. You won't get perfectly "cold" (ie: non ac) air from the vents.

On the plus side, and in my experience, the heater is superb on a cold winters day.

Oh, and congrats biggrin

Yes I always heard the noise of the AC compressor clicking on and off. But this is much more of a grounding mechanical sound!

How do I check the level of AC fluid?

False alarm. Was just one of the hoses touching the AC belt.

All tied back and fine now.
