I would be interested to see what is said here. I have read a thread on here arguing if the exhaust is stainless or not, seems it is. Looking at mine it must be fairly poor quality. I wondered if anyone had had a custom exhaust built that they were happy with. I was thinking of contacting these guys once the car has been upto Jetstream to see what else needs fixing.

Thanks but not particularly helpful or obvious that

Sorry lads. Yes I was certainly operational in the 80s (and some time before!) but my mind must have been working on a different frequency on reading this - I assumed it some kind of electronic device for engine management
Which is strange as the word 'black' didn't appear once in the original post...?Deleted as I figured it was easier just to go to Haywood Scott and ask them. I'll report back.

It's only the fact of going away from standard and that my original system is still is ok that's holding me back.I could easily be tempted though.
I've decided not to go full system as that's the start of a slippery slope - remap, more power, uprated clutch/gearbox, etc, etc. Some added theatre is all I'm after. I'll drop in to Haywood Scott next week - they've told me I can have any back box I want for £600 + vat. Thing is, I'm not sure what I want sound wise or what is possible.
Here is my first H&S system .
Sounded great and made good power .
My 2nd system is what I'm using today , 4 years on and it's in good order , repackable boxes and Flexi 's have worked fine and it's still in great condition !!
Sounds great too .

Hi Macky17 - it might be worth thinking about an upgrade in power at the same time as the cost of the exhaust is a large part of the overall cost.
My car has a Noble motorsport exhaust, fuel pump and intercooler fitted and the costs of each were £1,500, £126 and £425 respectively. It did require a remap and that added £660. But for this power increased to 415bhp and 400lbft. This was in Feb 2011 and since there has not been a problem with any of these items after an additional 25,000 miles. The clutch was changed after 23,000 miles following the upgrade, but after a total of 45,000 miles so to be expected really. That extra power only adds to the drama!
Just a thought and much depends on what you can do yourself, but all of these items can be swapped out fairly easily compared to many other items.
I meant to add that there have been no other problems since the upgrades either, such as with the gearbox etc.

Don't think it has to be. Should be able to go to 450ish Bhp without box problems (assuming the torque is capped )unless yr gonna track it? And the valve springs will prob stop you going any further unless they're changed ?sjc said:

Oh dear. Really? Now you've planted a seed...So, exhaust system, valve springs and a sensible remap = reliable 450bhp? That's, what, £3500 or so?

I have the BCS powervalve full system on my car ( http://youtu.be/1ZP7htdyvHA ).It's expensive but it really is a quality system and a bit of a work of art. As quiet as standard under normal driving but come on boost and the silencer gets bypassed and sounds awesome!
I previously had a cheap cat back system made up by a local 'lifetime guarantee' stainless exhaust place and the thing kept falling apart, it literally snapped in half on a trackday!

Finally dropped in at Haywood Scott in Basildon today. What a nice bunch of chaps. As I suspected, they can't make my car sound like a Hennessy venom or a Maserati (joke) but they can, for £650+vat, design a nice twin back box system like tuxmans above which will be 'louder' as well as less restrictive and more attractive than the standard item (not difficult I'm guessing). A nice pair of larger oval tail pipes will be an added cosmetic bonus. Will probably get this done early next year.
