More a problem of perception. Cat X cars don't have a good image - which I suspect is why you're asking. Assuming you get to learn the whole history and you apply common-sense and best practice re inspections you should be OK. And remember, visually no one will ever know its a CAT X anyway (until sale time).

Funny as regularly in the classic car trade motors are purchased that are so much worse than Cat X. For example I'm sure every $30M Ferrari GTO that's sold at auction has been extensively mullered on track more than once - yet no one bats an eyelid as they are always repaired to perfection.

So long as you pay less than market value (as you'll not get market value when you come to sell) you'll be OK.

For me, I would want to know all the history and see the photos. It wouldnt stop me buying it if i knew i was keeping it long term, but it will cause resale issues, so i'd want £5-£6k off the going rate prices.

If its a 3R that can be bought for the price of a 2.5, then you will sell it eventually.

There is one on ebay at the moment and he wants 29995 for it, madness. To me its worth 25k.

Thanks for the responses I have always steered clear but I have seen several of the TVR lads doing it and it is cheap it's a 3R via someone I know. Few bits to do apparently but I have not seen it yet concern is chassis twist as hub and wheel replaced

I just bought one. My old car probably had more repairs due to rust! As far as I'm concerned, a great buy, because I paid £10k less than a non cat car. £25k miles and very tidy. I'll run it into the ground too, so not bothered by resale value. If my back was against the wall and had to sell, I have the purchase receipt from Jet Stream, so all the proof I need this car is good.
