I was looking through the assembly manual and it stated that the initial fill of engine oil should be 5W30 and then subsequent fills should be 5W20. Can anyone explain why there would be a change? What is the net effect of using a heavier weight oil than specification?

Not sure if US cars are different, but uk manual says 5/40 fully synthetic iirc. But then again what do I know I just take it to Jetstream every year (or more!) and they sort it out 😏

From the wiki

Oil- Factory recommends Shell Helix Ultra 5W/40 Fully synthetic. Also Mobil 1 recommended by some tuners/racers.

Take a look at the FAQs, answers a lot of questions.

I would not use 5w20 - not with the heat that the turbo's generate

From my installation manual document:

Chapter 12: Vehicle and Drive Train Specifications

Right there on the first page:

Engine oil: First oil change after engine install at 500 –1000 miles. Use a 5w-30 mineral based oil for at least the first 3000 miles. Use a SAE 5w-20 synthetic like Mobile 1 after this. Change oil every 3000-5000 miles. More often under sever driving conditions. See engine manufacture for specific recommendations.
Capacity: Stock Pan - 5 quarts
Track Sump Pan – 8-9 quarts

I did see the Wiki that specifies 5W40 as well. More fuel to the fire.... What are people using at this time?

The mineral oil is a running in oil and used to bed every thing in !!
No way I would use 5w-20 , normal road car spec is 5w-40 on the race engines we run 10w-60 to protect the engine at high temperatures !!!!
