Hi all,

Recently noticed that when coming to a stop (revs dropping & braking) that my headlights dim. They then brighten up if I give the car a rev.

Would I be right in thinking this is probably my alternator on the way out? going to try and get a voltmeter on it later but preparing myself now biggrin

Is an alternator tricky to change on the Nob? FAQ says it's from a 2.5 ford cougar, is that true for the 3.0 engines too or do they use an ST220 item or similar?

Thanks,
Alex

I may be wrong but I would be looking for a poor earth, maybe start with the battery to chassis strap.

I had a brand new alternator fitted a couple of years ago when mine failed and it then started to do this... its quite a common thing on the noble and is something to do with the ford regulator being designed to run with a different type of loom with an ecu.

The solution was a simple minor change in the wiring at the alternator plug and this solved it 100% on mine and quite a few other cars so its a recognised fix.... can't quite remember exactly what it was.

ALternativelly you can just live with them dimming slightly which is what a lot of car/owners have done... Im guessing ford changed the regulator design at some stage to improve it on their cars, certainly my old alternator never did it.

Have to cut the black wire from the plug. And loop it back on to the b terminal. Easy
