My 3R had a dump valve already fitted when I bought it but I'm really not a big fan of the sound.

In days gone by, there were varying opinions on the need / benefit of dump valves. What's the latest thinking?

And, if there is a benefit, is there anything I can do to reduce the volume of the dump?

Thanks

Dave

This is going to no doubt be a stupid question, but why does the car with bulk head filters make a dump-valve type sound, despite there definitely being no dump valves. Does it have recirc dump valves somewhere or am I just confused about the sound all turbo cars make?

Isn't it just air pressure equalising and sounding like it's being pushed back through the filter? This and waste gates!

Chapters, your hearing the Waste gate chirping.

I'm with sumo if you have a dump valve on a twin turbo noble, bin it lol.

There are two distinct sounds, the "vrooooom tissshhh" from most lift-offs and the distinctive wastegate chirp caused by the air rushing back through the turbo sometimes under certain load and rev conditions. Sounds stupid coming from an engineer I'm sure but I've always wondered because my old Focus RS definitely did have a dump valve and sounded reasonably similar.

Yer the vroooom tiisshhhh is the air pressure equalising as the vacuum ceases, or thats what I thought...

OP the dump theoretically increases the life of various turbo system components at high boost pressures. Our cars don't run at very high pressures so the benefit is negligible. The car does suck and blow naturally and you can always get one of the foam covers, this reduce the noise if you don't want to remove the dump.

If you floor it and lift of slightly then lift slightly more you can make a double dump.

feed it back into the air inlets, then you cant hear it and it gives the turbos a kick.

What Adrian says.
whilst the stall may seem imperceptible in lower gears, I found a definite lag point up-changing 4th-5th and 5-6th when on full beans.
The point is if you remove the valve it is more likely to stall the turbo.
I found a hard pipe kit and b/off made a big difference.

So how do I feed it back? That's definitely my preference - does this involve precision engineering skills?
