Well more bloody drama...after failing MOT test the other day on emissions the wipers have gone and packed up as well, but they are still working when you press the water jet and still wipes the window once but wont work in any other position..
Thought before i get an auto electritian out to sort the problem im guessing its not a fuse or something stupid like that and if i have to replace the stalky bit at the steering wheel is it Mondeo??...Cheers

Think the stalks are Fiesta Mk3 or Mk4 if that helps.
Is there not a relay to check for the wipers?

Wiring for the stalks if that helps or your handy with a mult-meter : http://www.pistonheads.com/GASSING/topic.asp?h=30&...

Footwell relay / fuse diagram :

Looks like Wiper / Wash is one relay and one fuse , assuming this works as you have said the problem might be elsewhere ....

Wiper stalks are Mk6 Escort 4 DOOR!! The 5dr version will have the push for rear wiper which you obviously don't have. There is a 6 speed version available from a Ghia/Ghia X and there's some info on here on how to convert with a new relay. But.....

I suspect it may be just a wire adrift rather than anything else. The wires are crimped onto thin spade terminals and pushed onto the stalk pins in the most Heath Robinson way imaginable so you may find it's simpler than you think. I'm replacing mine with the correct Ford plugs and soldering and heat shrinking a proper loom in place while I'm adding bits. Quite frustrating once you discover Noble used different wire colours for most of it curse

No, wheel stays on. There should be one small Allen bolt just behind the hazard button. You're likely to jump when the horn goes off though, so carefully unplug the white connectors cable tied to the column first.
