After an encounter with a pothole I fear I've slightly distorted one of the wheels. Does anyone know of a wheel refurbisher in the Bucks Berks area that could possibly repair it? Can this type of damage be repaired or is it a new wheel?

You may want to try Cadbury's, I think it would be ill advised to try and straighten an M400 wheel.

I agree with Adrian if it's a M400/3R wheel I wouldn't waste your time having it even checked, if you go on the FB page contact Jason from Noble Racing Wheels as I think he has some used ones forsale.

It depends how bad it is. I recently had a rear 3R wheel refurbished as I had dinged a curb.
Unbeknown to me, I was told that the wheel was slightly buckled. The refurb place straightened the wheel with no problems - I think there was an extra £20 or £30 added to the refurb cost.
I'm aware that these wheels are prone to cracking, but there's no evidence on mine.
I'd take it to a good refurb shop and they should be able to advise. They're the experts afterall.

I take it that you had it Xray'd then, obviously it is your life, I had one of these wheels go bang for no reason, Noble and Wheelcraft could not explain it, after they had carried out a full investigation, I am not the only person this has happend to, there are also several wheels that have cracked around the fixing holes. They are cheap cast wheels, not even forged, they are full of voids and inclusions.

Repairing these wheels is not a good idea.

I have to agree, repairing 3R/M400 wheels is a bad idea. I had one that developed a crack from the bolt recess out between two spokes, I noticed it while washing the car one day and by the next wash (around 4 weeks) it had got bigger. Had I have left it I'm in no doubt it would have failed and could have caused serious damage to the car, me and anyone else in the local vicinity. Unless you're going to have it ultrasonically tested it just isn't worth the risk IMHO.

I have just had all 4 straightened and refurbished, My Alloys as Jarcy suggested, the technician who works there seemed to know exactly what he was doing, he explained which wheels (some BMW ones etc.) he would not touch, no visible cracks before or after, they are perfectly straight now and look good.

I examine the wheels around the bolt holes every time I wash them - which is frequently. I understand this is where they are prone to cracking and failure. Mine are fine, short of a full metallurgy examination. Have any wheels failed elsewhere, especially at the rim? I don't see that straightening a slight buckle at the rim is likely to exacerbate the cracking problem. If they were that serious, then all should be binned straightaway and a recall issued by Noble.

Genuinely interested - did your wheel completely explode or was there an obvious specific failure. Did it cause an accident? eek Did it fall apart or where did it fail? Thnx

My wheel failed where the spokes join the rim as did others, the whole centre of the wheel came out, the wheels were less than six months old, you could see the air bubbles and inclusions in the metal.

Yes it did cause crash, another noble briber was following at the time so saw everything.

There are old threads about the Wheelcraft wheels failing.

That's worrying. Are you saying that the factory M400 wheels are prone to failure and that a safer bet is to replace all 4 with a differently manufactured wheel? My original intention was simply to have all 4 wheels refurbd because they are in need. Then I noticed the strange angle on one of the rims which I put down to a pot hole interaction. 4 new wheels is going to be a painful start to the month, but far less painful than a wheel disintegrating on track...

What to do next?

I replaced all four of my M400 wheels for Dymags, I had a hairline (barely visible) crack around a wheel nut recess on a front wheel and a crack at the outer end of a spoke on a rear.
After the few that failed and or were starting to crack I am amazed anyone still has these wheels fitted.
After bending one I certainly wouldn't risk a repair.

Just seen a thread suggesting these are being made again but will be in the region of £6k...

Id like to make a quick decision on wheels in time for Rockingham. My understanding is the contenders are:

OEM - 12.7kg front and 13.6kg rear - £? - availability?
Compotive - 11.4kg front and 11.4kg rear - £1k approx? Not mad keen on the design of these
Speedline - 10.6kg front and 11.9kg rear - £1k approx - did the group buy already happen?
Dymag - 7.0kg front and 7.8kg - £6k approx - too dear

I'm after as close to OEM look as is available so either OE 3R/M400 or Speedline seem to be the options. Are there any other alternative wheels to consider? Would like to order next week if pos...
