Hi Guys
Had a great day at Rockingham on sat, the nob was just fantastic.
However after 4 or 5 laps power steering was making strange noises when coming back to pits.
Undid cap and fluid was all bubbly, all ok after 5 minutes or so and no noises from power steering.
Do I need a higher temp fluid or just need to renew.
Cheers

I had to fit a bigger cooler and new fluid . The old clear bottle is better than the black one too .

I had a new power steering reservoir made which solved it on mine.

worth making sure the cooler at the front is actually functioning, it get's really full of crud and corrodes very quickly being so close to road!

There is a little hole in the cap, I've brought a plug and some hose and was going to run this into a catch tank.
But I thought this was just a leaking thing.

If it boiling surely it needs a better/bigger rad?

Its a cavitation thing.... when you rev the nuts out the car the pump cavitates, if you can't get the air out of the fluid it just gets hugely aerated and expands out of the cap breather. The higher you rev it the more the cavitation and thus its worse on track.
The 'old' white tank is far better at getting the air out of the system than then better looking black 'new' tank.

I designed an alloy tank for my car that gets the air out the system while having a slightly higher capacity... worked for 4 years on my car and never had a single drop of fluid leak out despite it revving to over 8000rpm on track!

Andy, have you thought about spinning the pump a little slower? Would this mess with the PAS at low speeds (pump no longer delivering the required pressure / volume)?

We did that on the alternator pulley which is on the same belt, however I had solved the power steering on my car so there is no need to do anything further smile

Andy
I think that's whats happening to my car on track as I have the black tank.
Does the tank you designed have a proper breather on top then.

Mine has baffles etc inside which are large enough to remove the air... its fairly simple really, and holds a larger volume of oil than the black one.
The main reason I changed was because I relocated mine so wanted it odd shape.

You are welcome to give the stock white plastic one I took off a go... Tuxman still runs that without issue or sweat bands lol
