ok, i have been searching but keep finding some possible conflicting info. what exactly is in the motor and how much can the bottom end hold? are the pistons in the 3r engine forged? upgraded forged rods (atleast over the "stock 3.0 duratec motor). head studs? main studs?
i have the gt28 turbos on mine and looking to turn the boost up. it currently is at 400rwhp and running a motec m84 ecu, with boost controlled by the motec. i have heard my first step to turning it up is new springs and titainium retainers. the previous owner bought some but never got to install them, so i will be picking them up from him and installing. is there anything else internally i should be doing to reach my 600 crank hp goal? car already has lightweight flywheel and aftermarket clutch, though i do not know the level of clutch. intercooler has been upgraded, fuel pump, filters, and possibly the front radiator is aftermarket. exhaust also is custom made with only small resonators and no cats.

it currently has 550cc injectors, so i will probably up it to 650cc. also will be making alot more effieceint intercooler piping as well as remaking the exhaust.

how has the trans been holding up at those power levels? axles? i know there is a lot of questions in this post, but just trying to figure out if i have all my bases covered before turning boost up.

thanks for any info!

I'm suspecting your car came or is in the states, if that's the case then I think your bottom end is slightly different to European spec.

400bhp at crank is max power you can make on stock valve springs, upgrading these is the first thing you must do.
You will also need to have the heads flowed, forged Pistons, upgraded injectors, upgraded fuel pump etc.

In Europe the stock Pistons on a gt03r are cast ford items, I believe in the states they are swoped for forged as standard but I dont really know so you will need to check.

Gearboxes are not so clear cut, you need a top notch clutch to take a genuine 600bhp. Quite a few of the upgrades will only just take a genuine 500bhp so your clutch may need changing.. Anything 500bhp plus we tend to add cooling to the gearbox and upgrade the bearings... This has held to over 700bhp in mine yet same spec has broken in others running under 500bhp... 5 th is the comon failure and its a bit of a lottery it seems.

also think you'll need different turbo's to the GT28's to make 600bhp. Gearbox will definitely need strengthening, mine failed at just over 400bhp and 400lbft when standard. What boost pressure are you currently running?

i still am going through the entire car at this point, and have not even driven it yet to see what boost is set at. i want to say from memory it was only about 7-10psi, but could be wrong so don't quote me. ya, the gearbox is my main concern. you can usually build a motor to push what you want it to push, but when the other parts can't handle it, there really isn't much use to do it.

i will try to look up the cooling mods people have done. i am really on the fence about yanking motor and trans and doing a rebuild anyways ( i have 27k miles on mine), which would dictate new oversized pistons anyways. a call to rossion could probably answer my question about the u.s. spec builds i hope.
engines are a dime a dozen here, but we never had any 6 spd equipped cars here in the u.s., now the volvo s60 r did have the same gearbox, but not sure at this point if casting is the same and same mounting points. in other words, if i blew up the trans, it will be tough to source here in the states. sounds like it could go either way though if it will hold or not.
i really don't plan on tracking the car too much, and i don't beat on my cars, but i ofcourse do want to know it was built to the level i could.

Might be worth giving hover at Turbo Hoses a call. He is probably the BIGGEST fan of the Noble in the US. smile
